How To Do "Weathered Paint Job" ? - 12/29/18 03:09 AM
Restoring a 90 year old tractor for "yard art".
It is total rust but solid. I want it to look like old paint with patina showing thru.
So what..... get the loose stuff off an give it a heavy "dust coat" ?
Have been watching Weld-er-up for tips

Restoring & touching up are way different.
Kill any rust for sure, otherwise it will just come back up through the new paint.

I've never seen a "weathered paint job" that didn't look like a weathered paint job. Maybe its just the lack of artistic talent but the most common issues seem to be putting "wear" where wear shouldn't be and sanding off the topcoat to look like wear but leaving clearly visible sanding marks.

There is an article in the Feb 19 issue of CarCraft that explains what you want to do.
