65 B-Body Master Cylinder Conversion

Hello All
I would like to change the master cylinder on my 65 Coronet to a dual master cylinder. Does anyone know of a conversion kit? or of a supplier of the master cylinder that I would need? Do I need a specific kit or can I use a master cylinder from a different car. If so, what car? What should I look for in a good conversion kit? What are some of the pitfalls I should watch for?

I'd start with DoctorDiff and go from there. You might need a firewall plate depending on if you have a power brake car or a manual brake car.

Thanks for the info. I'll check them out now. The car has power brakes. I think that Wilwood has the parts also.

I wouldn't recommend Wilwood. Stick with factory parts, you'll be better off in the long run. You can get the correct parts from Doctor Diff. You need a firewall plate, the 4 to 2 bolt adapter and the new aluminum/plastic master cylinder. You might also need a different pushrod. The conversion would be a lot easier if you had a manual brake car since then you would have the correct firewall plate and the correct pushrod.

You should probably post this over in the general or racing section since it isn't a restoration topic. Adding a late model MC to an early car is restomod.

OP didn't state whether or not he wants to retain the power brakes.

If retaining the power brakes and original drum brakes, a stock replacement drum brake MC from a '67 PB car, like the Raybestos MC36221, will do the job. It'll bolt right to your '65 booster.

Buddy of mine switched his 1966 over.
Used all 67 parts. Keeping the drum brakes , his is manual though

Bought an nos 67 Master cyl , used a 67 prop valve and lines from Finelines for a 67.

Works like a charm

I changed over on my 65 300. Used the power brake MC from a 67-68 and got some lines from Stainless Steel lines for the MC to the distribution block.

Here is the engine bay in my '65 Coronet. It isn't a close up shot but you can see the aluminum/plastic master cylinder that I used. It has the 4 to 2 adapter but as others have pointed out, if you use a cast iron MC then you don't need the adapter. I stopped using cast iron master cylinders years ago since they rust during storage, but if you drive the car on a regular basis and change the brake fluid every couple of years you'll be okay.
