Door lock knobs

I hope this isn't so obvious I feel stupid when it's over. 1969 Lynch Road Super Bee. Should the interior door lock knobs be chrome or black? Parts book lists chrome, but I feel like I've seen a lot of black over the years. Thanks for the help. Car was built in January.

black interior is USUALLY black.

Our St. Louis Built 69 Road Runner has black interior and black door lock knobs.

No chrome buttons on Birds or Bees. I’ve had tannish brown ones with bronze painted upper door panels and two tone tan bench seat and blue ones with blue uppers and bucket seat interior. Black ones with black interior. I believe the color is to closely match the painted upper door panels.

Your's should be Black, from what I understand the Chrome in parts book are just factory replacements

Black for your black interior. Door lock knobs were color coded to the interior in 69 B bodies.

Thanks for all the responses. What about the door lock knob insert that installs on the upper door panel? Same color as the door lock knob or chrome? I can't believe this is a detail I've overlooked throughout the years. Thanks again. I looked at a 1969 Coronet wagon in a junkyard over the weekend. Knobs and inserts were already gone.

Upper level interior packages have chrome buttons and the lower levels have "colored" ones. The reason most b-bodies are seen with black buttons is because black was a common color and most were ordered with low line interior codes because they were budget cars. I pulled chrome off my convertible Runner 35 years ago. Time for more research on your fender tag.

Related question - has anyone found a reproduction door lock knob that actually is any good? I bought some recently from one of the Mopar shops and the thread is so tight that the knobs won't screw on. So the Chinese guy who built the mold didn't do it correctly. Anyone know of a vendor who sells reproduction door lock knobs that actually fit?

Had the same experience, was so happy to not have to dye knobs anymore until I tried to install them!!! More incorrect reproductions!!!

Yeah, bad reproduction stuff sucks. Could someone who sells bad reproduction parts please explain to me what the business model is? I just don't understand the point of paying tooling charges for bad parts. How exactly does that work? If you are going to invest in reproduction tooling wouldn't it make sense to have the tools made correctly so the parts are good? Spending money to make bad parts seems wasteful to me. Guess these guys all went to a different business school than me.

I actually bought 2 sets, one for a friend to then realize they are junk. But what happens many times the purchaser doesn't return them so the vendor doesn't find out. That's what happened in my case I just ate it.

That is probably true. I bought this set from Dante so I sent him a note telling him that the knobs don't fit correctly. I might run a 8-32 tap down thru them to see if that fixes the problem.

andy, use a form tap instead of a [regular] cut tap. that way, you won't remove any material, making the knob loose on the threads.

Same here, I just bought a set of white knobs, I had a set of Dorman brand Chrome knobs which fit/looked excellent, just that I needed white, so when the white ones came out, looked nice, didn't fit for $hIt, I'm like "really!", they can't even get a part so simple right?, were's the QC before during and after the production of this part?... yeah the solution was easy, just run a tap thru the part, but reworking "new" parts starts to get old lately...

What is sad though; the Mopar repro "license guys" have been on here in the past defending their money grabbing program, esp the QC portion of it, IMHO I'd say they should forfeit any monies from licensing inferior repro parts, until they are corrected, maybe a hit in their wallet instead of ours might get some favored results?.... but in reality we all know it's just another money grab, they could give 2 $hit$ about the enthusiast... as long as the parts move,(whether they're usable or not) and monies come in who cares, right?

It's the same deal on the dame lamp switches that screw into the hinge pillars: apparently the manufacturers don't bother to look at thread pitch.

Ron, I tapped them 8-32, this was for a 68-70 B body application, I would "assume" Ma Mopar "most likely" used the the same thread application from 66-74? A,B,C,E ?....

Are Chargers considered upper level interior? I have a '69 tan interior Charger with chrome knobs, but my black '69 Charger interior has aftermarket 6u11$#!t. Should it get chrome or black for it?

My '69 Charger with tan interior has tan colored knobs. They appear to be original. I do not recall color of the inserts. I can post pics if you want.

I think a black interior gets black knobs. My understanding is that chrome knobs were not installed at the factory, they were only available as a replacement part because colored knobs were not available as a replacement part.
