1969 340 Distributor cap

What color was the OE distributor cap?

Depends which distributor it is.Duel or single point

Should probably be Tan in color.

340 Dual point Prestolite. The reason I am asking is that it had a black cap on it when I bought the car years ago and I thought I read somewhere that it should be black on 1969 340 cars but now that I am getting it back together, I am having second thoughts that all the 69 Mopar muscle cars had tan ones? I know that all my 383/440/426 Hemi cars in the past had tan ones but I never had a 340 car before now.

What about the plug wires on the same engine? Black or I've also seen orange?

Black until 1970 I believe.

That’s what I thought I knew but I am going with tan for now? I’d like things as correct as possible but I’m really not going for OE platinum judging.

Tan caps showed up approx 1966 give or take a year or so depending on plant.

Black wires with yellow lettering up till approx very late 1971...mainly 1972 is standard

You are correct. It is un-restorded. All factory original except for the the fuel filter, fan belt and the two heater hoses.
