68 Dart Steel Dash Removal - 02/26/18 05:31 AM

Getting ready to rewire the car and I noticed some rust forming around the edges of the dash and in some visible areas. We had to wash it out a few years back when it was in storage because some cats decided to live in it. I could touch it up in the car, but I'd prefer to pull the steel dash and paint it . Can I pull it without removing the glass?

Also, any good print restoration guides for these cars?

Only way to remove it without pulling the windshield is to grind the 5 bolts underneath. Pretty much everything under the dash must be removed to do it, including the plastic defrost vents or you risk melting them. I have also seen someone grind them down then drill them out. After the dash is out you can remove the sheet metal nuts but you must be careful or you may ruin where the sit. It is also tougher to reinstall the bolts afterwards with short ones from underneath... work No restoration guides just yet but most Mopar unibody's are close to the same... no

I'm familiar with that trick. Maybe I'll touch up a section and see how it is. I just gutted the dash this last weekend to install a new harness as well as a new HVAC system, so not too much left to hurt if I decide to get froggy. Thanks.
