Legendary covers on Super Bee bucket seats ??? Wrinkles - 02/12/18 10:56 PM

So seat recovering is not my forte, but its also not my first rodeo. Ive done several working at a dealership for years, and I did the Demon, Cuda, and Ramcharger.

I have the seat backs done for my Bee and I had to add a lot of foam to get the bulster to look correct. Legendary told me to add 1/2 to 3/4" foam until they fill out. Well Ive don't that, but inside where they contour the inside spring part to the side bulstering they are wrinkling badly. Ive read to steam them in a few places online. Will steam work on a vinyl seat?

yes. but depends on how bad the wrinkle is whether it will shrink out.

Well Ill try it, if I could post pics on here I would but I don't have a flicker account

If you were to look at the center portion of the seat, on that edge where it transitions from that center part to the sides where its a nice rounded bolstering it is wrinkled on the piping and that inner corner where its a really compound radius

Did you start from the center & work outwards?

With how this seat is designed its impossible to do it any other way

I would take it loose & start over then.

A photo of what you have first would help though........

I've never had a problem with wrinkling when covering over new foam. I see you added foam, but was the foam replaced in the 1st place?

69 Bee, new foam, new everything except for the frames.

I have that problem on my 71, and after comparing to an original, the Legendary cover were made different, and even after trying a different cover, and adding foam they still are wrinkled. I think the Legendary covers have something that is different about them, and can't be fixed.

Bucket seats require the correct molded foam and I’m not seeing that here. Bench and rear seats use roll foam

The bad news - steam will not help here.

The good news - the problem is not the covers.

Foam, trial & error are a lot cheaper than covers.

Getting the foam contours right can take hours on the first one.

Try, test fit, trim, test fit, etc. as much as needed.

The second one goes quicker with lessons learned from the first one.

I helped a friend recover some seats on his GTX and the new seat covers from Legendary were absolutely horrible ! Wrinkles galore even after having them back in the sun. Even with the new bucket seat foam from them, I had to add more foam from a fabric supply place to pad it up. The fit was absolutely horrible. We called up Legendary and they wanted pictures. Said about adding more foam and we replied that we already added more than what was on the new foam cushions we got from them. I think their product or at least the quality has gone down hill.

The foam kits I bought and used are the correct ones for these seats I called multiple times.

Ill take them to a friends shop that does seats. I hate doing that as Im a do it myself cheap ass.

I think in the area of the wrinkles....The added foam on each side needs to be rounded in each inner corner to match the cover. Also, the seam on the front bolster on each side the foam may need a relief cut....

That way when the cover goes on the foam doesn't bunch up.....

Legendary's service simply sucks....I ran into the wrinkling issue on my GTX and it dealt with the side bolsters and the added foam on top of new moulded foam. With a lot of trimming and repeat fitting they finally worked out....

I used pui I believe on a similar set... the fronts were great, the backs were horrible. At least the backs look good on those cover.

I agree with moparnation74... just look at foam for an e-body, rounded to match the contour of the cover. Maybe even rollbar shaped foam, not right density, but has to be rounded foam out there that would work.
