Correct alternator 3438172 for a 71 GTX/RR. - 01/21/18 06:46 AM

A buddy has an alternator that he was getting ready to turn in as a car at the parts store for $12. Luckily, he asked me about , its 3438172 with a 243 date. Have not seen the star burst yet to verify as 70 or 70. Has single pulley.

What is a fair price for it as a good core?

I need one for my 71 440 GTX with AG.

Thanks
Chris

Prices of desirable dated cores are all over the map. Depends on condition also, but I would say $30-$40 would be fair. Some people I'm sure have paid a lot more to a seller who knows what he has.

So that is the 24th week of 1973? If so would not be good for your car.

If it is a very nice confirmed 70-71 core they go for $100 or more on this site typically.

243 is not the date code. That's an assembly line code.

The date code is much fainter and is in a month / year like 3 70 or 10 69

12 bucks sounds fair to a buddy..

Thats what he did, sold it to me for $12. I'll pick it up in a week or 2. I thought he said it was a 70, but won't know until I see the actual date on it.

Folks turn them in for cores all the time, even guys that should know better. Please alert these folks to not do this with the original parts.

Yeah, I'm dying to get my 12 bucks back or I won't make till the end of the month.

I got really lucky recently, a buddy bought a parts car and there was a rebuilt alternator in the trunk, still in the rebuilders box. It was a 172 with a 44 69 date code. Freebie to me, but won’t be for long, once Jim Ridge is done with it👍

Is Jim back to doing alternators?

I am "back." Had a special contact lens made for my left eye. So you're right half looks really good...just kidding, just kidding. We have quite the backlog but will work with the customer to try and meet his or her needs. I really appreciate y'alls patience as I work through this challenge and hope to be back to normal scheduling in 6 to 8 months. Again, many thanks! Jim Ridge & Thomas Livingston - Dixie Restorations

I have two alternators I tried giving away some time ago. I'm tired of moving them around my shop. One has the single field back that has not been blasted with a part number of 2095192 and "66" in the clock. The front of that alternator has been blasted but still legible as a KCP 2095191 with "67" for a date. Another one I have has a 2095191 Front with "66" for a date and blasted but is legible but a squareback on the back. They go in the trash soon if no one wants them. PM me. I want them gone. My zip is 99336.

Great news!

I'm sorting through all my parts right now for all my cars so I'll send out another alt to you hopefully next week.

Thanks
