Paint markings on leaf springs.

Hello members. Anyone know the color of the paint daub the factory used on the rear of leaf springs, back where they attach to the shackles. Its a 1969 383 Dart GTS. Also were springs them self painted or left natural most of the time? Thanks for any info.

My '69 Barracuda 340 assembled at Hamtramck early November 1968 had unpainted springs. Dart 383s could have been assembled at Hamtramck but had different springs part number wise.

I found black paint on my spring assemblies but later realized it must have been painted by a spring shop where I had an extra leaf installed years ago. The tipoff was black paint on top of and not under the latex markings near the front eye.

Look very carefully for factory latex paint daubs near the front eye from about 9:00 to 12:00 on the left spring (12:00 to 3:00 on the right), and you might find remnants, as that area is mostly protected from road debris and weathering.

My colors were khaki and aqua, but yours should be different.

I have this pair of NOS lower leaf springs 3400894 that check to 70-71 A-body with 340.
They are in natural bare metal with no paint markings on ends or elsewhere other than the stenciled part number 3400894.
They would be however considered over the counter replacement, which may not likely have markings like completely assembled units, if in fact they did.

It varied with the plant, year, drive train combo, and the guy adding them. This is just one example of an 71 A-body built in October 1970, Hamtramk plant, as with many inspection markings, I've never seen any two that were exactly alike. These were factory painted black and the inspection mark was added afterwards.

The document I have shows a single ID paint daub color for 2835056 springs, that being yellow. I don't know if the ID daub would be the same size as other daubs (only half-way across the spring width) or would go all the way across the spring width.




The same document calls out green and olive as the ID paint daub colors for 2835132 springs - just different names for the colors you've observed.

Yes, 2835132 was the number on my factory spring assemblies for 69 Barracuda 340.

When I restored my "044" springs I found a yellow and white swipe after soaking them in Evaporust.

I've been asking this question on here for 4 years now. I can't believe no one knows the answer to this.

So does no one here have a nicely restored 1969 383 Dart GTS. What color are the paint marking on the rear of the leaf springs?
