I have seen some cars that have black markings on the front of their valve covers, usually numbers and or a letter.
What would be the correct markings for a 69 440 4-speed ?
I saw a very nice Daytona 440 4 speed car that had a 915 on the front of the pass side valve cover and on the drivers side there was a O on the front, would that be correct for my GTX ?
Also can someone tell me what they mean ? I am guessing maybe engine type and trans type ? did all of these cars have those markings or only some and what type of a marker would a person use to put them on, I would think over time they would maybe burn off.

Although not the norm, along with a 125 on the front, I had these markings on an original set of 69 hi-po 440 valve covers that I removed years ago.
A few dings and paint runs as well.

Just the fender tag, only about 15 percent of the BC found under the bucket seat.

One valve cover will have the engine number from the BC
The other cover may have nothing or a carb code or a character denoting trans type.
The only way to know for sure is to document what the car had when you took it apart, if possible.

Those markings are sound correct for a 69 440 4speed from what I remember. 915 on pass. side denotes the 440 and 0 on driver side denotes the 4 speed

I know the engine's part number (last three of the part number) is on the Lynch Road built fender tag for '69 not sure of the other plant fender tags. This is a survivor '69 383 automatic Super Bee's fender tag and valve cover marking. "899" is on the tag along with the trans and axle. (it's an A/C car with a turquoise-blue engine)
