How to tell interior paint color, and where to get it? - 01/11/17 05:44 AM

I have a 68 road runner with blue interior. I need to paint the "A" pillar covers, kick panels, and seat hinge covers. Is there somewhere to match the color from the original pieces?? Is there any way to tell by the fender tag?? Thanks for the help!

Aaron,
Your data tag will tell the interior color, I would think you may be able to find the color on line.
I have old chip books that show factory interior colors and if they are to be low gloss, flat etc.

TCP global can hook you up-

So it will tell the interior color, but how do I figure out each different color of blue??

you will be able to find the actual paint codes for various shades & gloss level of interior components that were originally painted, but I don't think there is any source for what color the vinyl or plastic pieces can be dyed to replicate their original molded/cast color.

with the hundreds of paint systems out there - your best option is trial & error matching (or scanning) the backside of an original piece
* unless someone recently matched the same interior with good results.

I am currently in search of a good paint match for the a-pillars, dash pads and/or kick panels (at least 2 different colors) for a '69 Road Runner with tan interior (M6T T7) - in every fresh tan interior pic on-line the colors are different & I don't have any original pieces. frown

My brother is doing his '70 Challenger (H6F8) interior right now, what we did was order some of the correct 'Bayou green' suede paint for the metal items from TCP, and then at the same time just had them mix up a batch of SEM vinyl dye to match the Bayou green to freshen up the dashpad, console and soft trim parts. I guess originally there were probably like 7 different shades of green found in the interior between the plastic and metal pieces, but at least this way everything will have a consistent look. Haven't sprayed the vinyl dye yet but the painted items are looking really good.

So the interior code is H4B. From your first link, how do you know what is painted what color?? High gloss, Low gloss, Exterior gloss??

Ideally you would want to have a 1968 shop manual. I don't have one myself, but somebody here can probably help you out with the info you need. Here are some of the 1970 pages, I found them at Hamtramck-Historical.com, didn't see the similar pages for 1968 at a quick glance though, only the paint chip charts. (I think the info you need is on the back of the chip charts).
