A833 Three Number Stamp

A833 Three Number Stamp - 01/06/17 03:41 PM

I am in the process of rebuilding my transmission (18 spline A833 w/ August 12th build date) and am looking at reapplying the 3 number stamping on the side.

1) Can anyone tell me what the correct numbers should be from the identification provided above? First 2 digits are 67 (see picture)
2) Where can I get correct stamps?
3) What is the correct color paint?

What car and model year is your A833 going into?

Re: A833 Three Number Stamp - 01/06/17 04:49 PM

Car is 1970 R/T Charger. It is not matching number trans to this car, but appears to be correct year, based on "0G" stamp on trans indicating '70.

The only '70 4-speed part number that ends in 67x is the 3410679 which is for a /6.

Re: A833 Three Number Stamp - 01/06/17 09:15 PM

The number is the broadcast sheet 'part picker' number so 676 is possible.

676 = part number 3410683

Re: A833 Three Number Stamp - 01/06/17 09:42 PM

the number on the transmission is for the assembly - it includes the shifter & rods

"676" is correct for '70 426/440 b-body (18-spline)

That's what I believe it should be, too. Do you know if there were any other 3 digit numbers that had 67 as first two? I didn't see any.

Great. Thanks for confirming. Any idea if anyone is reproducing the stamps for this and what correct paint color is?

To redo my numbers, I took a picture with measurements to a sign shop that made some paint mask stencils, and lightly painted with white spray paint. It was good enough that Jammie Passon asked how I did it when he saw my transmission.

May look into that. Thanks.

I made my own after doing a little research on the font and size. What I came up with looks pretty good for what I have in it. I re-purposed some foam packing or pad that came in one of the boxes of many parts I've acquired or had restored so you may already have some. I printed out the actual number to scale using a font I found I downloaded using Word. I then cut the numbers out and placed them onto the foam, traced it then cut them out, then glued it onto a piece of cardboard. Walmart has a great selection of acrylic paints comparing it to my researched photos I came up with "Cool Blue".

If this is the route you'd like to consider just let me know. You can send me the number you need and I can create the doc and send to you ready to be cut out.

Using a lot of original photos from here and other sites as reference, I made the artwork for the Stamp so we can all have it for free. I'll upload it shortly so anyone that wants to make their own will have the artwork.

So would 676 also be correct for 1970 426 18 spline Hemi E-body?
Or would it be 677?

"676" is correct for '70 426/440 b-body (18-spline)
"677" is correct for '70 426/440 e-body (18-spline)

the trans assembly included the shifter, so they are different b to e-body

Anyone have the dimensions of this stamp ,height by width?

Re: A833 Three Number Stamp - 04/30/21 07:53 AM

The numbers on my transmission were 2" high, 2-3/8" wide. I downloaded for free the font Placard Condensed (not Placard MT Std Cond which is similar but not as correct) and made a master "602" with numbers 2" high. I think the rubber stamp needs some margin around the perimeter, so it needs to be slightly larger.

At RubberStamps.net, I uploaded my master and ordered a stamp 2.5" high x 3" wide, part number WOODSTAMP77, about $24. This is one stamp with three numbers, which is better than three stamps of one number each..

Because the margin around the rubber part of the stamp in the last photo seems unnecessarily large, it looks like maybe I could have ordered a smaller stamp 2.25" high x 2.5" wide, but I don't know if that size is available.

On the tail shaft of a 727 transmission, I’ve seen hand-painted numbers with 3 digits. Is there any relationship between the 3 numbers and a part number?

Don't quote me on this, I read here years ago that designates the prop shaft to be used. If anyone can verify, I'd like to hear, and also find out if there is a spreadsheet.

Are you referring to the driveshaft yoke?

Re: A833 Three Number Stamp - 05/15/21 10:16 PM

I believe it may have to do with the assembly number of the driveshaft. Post (or article) I read years ago and probably have it filed someplace.
Again do not quote me on this. It may have been sonething aboiut the yokes at each end. i.e. trac pac behind an auto vs 4 speed
a non hemi / 440 was spec'ed for a dana may have required different rear yoke?
What was the tail shaft you have from?

That image is from an online magazine and not mine. I’m rebuilding my 727 and I’d like to learn more about inspection marks, numbers, etc. Here is another from a member on here:
