1969 Road Runner recommended interior paints for M6T trim - 09/27/16 11:55 PM

I'm returning a '69 Road Runner coupe's bucket seat interior back to the original M6T - it was converted to black years ago. Some of the original tan pieces were dyed/painted black, others were replaced.

it looks like there are 6 different materials or shades of "tan" in the interior:

1) dash frame, upper windshield moulding, column - SUEDE?

2) upper door frame, roof rail, b-pillar - (T7) same as exterior paint?

3) rear window trim, b-pillar trim, door jamb windlace?

4) a-pillar trim, console, bucket seat hinge covers?

5) kick panels?

6) steering wheel? (3-spoke A87 RR)

are the 2 pieces of the interior rear window mouldings available reproduction? where?

which of the above pieces are available reproduction in the correct tan?

Can't speak for the upper piece but the lower piece is reproduced and available from Layson's. Its not a perfect repro - wrong plastic and slight difference in the extrusion. But from a couple feet away nobody will ever know. Only in black.

Except for the suede finish, all the plastic pieces could be done with the same SEM color if you can find the correct shade.

The rear inner window trim is a product manufactured by Trim Parts out of Ohio. A variety of vendors carry the product. You can purchase a complete kit or as stated earlier just the lower piece. We have sold a number of these kits and I would much prefer a good used one, but most of them are so brittle that they will break just trying to remove them. Also as stated, you will have to paint if yours is not black. Also the A-pillars and kick panels are available as repops. I have heard different opinions of the kick panels on the way that they fit. The same goes for the A-pillars, from what I have seen, I would again prefer locating good used and dying them to the correct color for your car.

I don't know if Trim Parts has re-tooled their window trim kit but, I bought one about 6 years ago and it sits in a box in my basement to this day. I fought the thing for 4 hours and could not get it to fit my 69 Road Runner. It's not that it did not fit right/good, it would absolutely not fit at all. The lower piece is in my car and fits okay but the two pieces that are supposed to fit around the upper part of the window would not fit at all. I bought a used upper piece off of E-bay for like $15 that looked terrible in the pics just to get a good look at it to see if I could find something to work but, the original actually cleaned up perfect and looks great. I think the thing came off of a car that sat outside for years without the window in as a lot of rusty chunks of metal came off of the car and were still on the seal when I got it. I was amazed that the thing cleaned up like it did.

I would suggest that you look for a used original.

The colors varied between the different items somewhat back in the day, easily 4 shades of a given color. I recall that all the package tray moldings at the back glass were black, but the upper ones were in color to match the headliner.
DuPont codes for T:
Suede - dash, ashtray, glovebox door, w/s center garnish, column:
9624L Laser Gold - C-bodies, apparently
9622L Buckskin Tan - B body
Low Gloss - roof rails, A-pillar covers, console, garnish:
9602L Saturn Beige
9605L Desert Tan (light)
9607LH Chestnut Tan (dark)
Gloss - door & quarter metal, B-pillar:
4997L Giallo Gold Metallic
4993L Golden Tan Met. (light)
4995LH Teak Tan Metallic
This is from a period DuPont chart, and obviously shows more choices than what was used, as they probably included all '69 Plymouth lines except as noted on Suede Unfortunately only the Suede shows a sample color & breakdown.

The Ditzler/PPG chart cdp posted uses the same color names as the DuPont chart, which should save you from buying paint you won't need.
My '68 RR Decor coupe (red interior) & '68 base coupe (blue) had the same color on the B-pillar as the door & quarter metal, don't know why the charts list differently; my '69 Decor coupe had black interior, no help there.
