70 E-Body Quarter Glass Hardtop vs. Convertible

Question about quarter glass:

Is the lower metal glass mounting structure and weather-strip/chrome-strip the same for both 70 E-Body hardtop and convertible models?

In other words, if I had a set of convertible quarter window assemblies, could I replace the glass with a hardtop glass, install them in my Cuda hardtop, and they would work?

The reference picture below is an NOS hardtop quarter window assembly that I found in another thread.

I'm hoping a few pics will help you. These are from a challenger but I believe a Cuda may be the same. In the first pic, the clean window mount on the left, is from a 70 Challenger convertible. When you look at the web going between the 3 holes, on the convertible it's a "T" shaped more than the hardtop one, The top of the "T" is angled on the left. They also have different part numbers.

In this pic, I stacked the windows on top of one another and lined up two of the holes as seen by the light underneath. The hole with the slide still mounted appeared to be slightly misaligned from the convertible glass on the bottom. The stainless trim on the hardtop was about one half inch longer( could be cut).

Here's where I noticed the big difference was the tilt of the glass when the seal end and the two holes are lined up. The back bottom edge was in a different position by almost an inch. Usually the Challenger and Cuda convertible hardware like this is interchangeable. I believe the way to tell at a glance which is convertible and which is hardtop is by the webbing line going between the holes. I hope this was somewhat informative.

I just noticed from the first pic there is a visible difference in the glass bottom edge angle, so I'm sure it would affect how the glass sat in the window opening and I'm not sure you could adjust that out.

Same here I see that the hard top mounting is @ more of an angle to the rear even though its not as parallel to the conv.one,as fare as the curve its hard to tell with all the hardware on but possibly different.

Terry - Thank you very much for posting the pictures and your assessment of the two different styles. The pictures are worth a 1000 words.

I see what you mean that the back edge of the glass does have a big difference in its position, and the rear-most mounting hole (in your first picture) is in a higher position on the hardtop glass mounting bracket compared to the convertible. Since the mounting bracket has different part numbers, clearly there must be a difference large enough in the design of the hardtop vs. convertible models that they don’t interchange.

Looking at the angle of the top of the “T” is a good way to distinguish the 2 different styles.

Here's one additional pic that shows more differences in the two mounting brackets. The h/t bracket shows how much larger the glass is compared to the convertible glass. Also note the triangular web behind the top rear mount hole is larger in the convertible bracket. I've never compared the two even though they hang on the wall next to each other. The h/t has a part number of 3499648 and the convertible number is 3499646 for the two shown.

Convertible E body quarter glass is convertible only, as is the mounting hardware. Convertible quarter glass is often confused with Cuda hardtop glass. The Challenger hardtop glass as shown in the pictures has a curved top edge and is much wider, but Cuda hardtop glass has the same shape with the flat edge where it meets the roof. Like the Challenger hardtop it too is much wider. Make sure if you are going to buy convertible E body quarter glass you make sure to measure it and make sure that you are getting convertible glass and not Cuda hardtop glass. Maybe you can get the measurements on the convertible glass from the member that posred the pictures in this thread.
