69 383 vs 440 a.c. bracket difference - 04/24/16 07:56 PM

Going thru all my brAckets to put on my 440 and I'm wondering which brackets are different for the a.c., it appears the front brackets are the same but the rear one will be shorter? Also the tubular support brackets will be different I assume.

Thanks

Duane

The 383 used a rear bracket bolted to the passenger side head. The 440 did not. Different rear spacer used for the 440. The pivot bolt goes directly into the head.

Thats for the alternator correct? My ac bracket bolts the drivers side head on the threaded hole just forward of the manifold, but it apears that it is higher than the front hole in the bracket that bolts to the water pump housing. Which makes sense if its a 383 bracket for the back, Im thinking the front bracket doesnt know any different since its in the same location on a B or RB block. But this is all a guess

Duane, you are correct. The front bracket is the same for both engines and the rear bracket and the 2 support tubes are different 383 to 440.Only the 383 uses the bracket bolted to the right cyl.head for the alt thru bolt. The 440 bolts right to the cyl head.

I have some pictures on my home computer that shows the different brackets and their measurements. I'll try and post them tonight.

Found the rear bracket for the 440, and im assuming the little bracket bolted to it is for the throttle return spring, if you have measurments for the support bars that would be good, I am hoping to have them too.
