Rechrome Plastic Parts

Where is the best quality place for getting parts rechromed (vacuum plating)?

I did a Google search for "rechrome plastic moparts" and found a post from 2010.

Members recommended back then:
1. Tony's Auto Classics in Texas
2. American Classics Restorations
3. CV Vacuum Platers
4. CV Plastics Plating in B.C.

I have a sunroof handle bezel I need restored for my 74 Charger; it has seen better days...

The process most of those companies you listed will use is vacuumized aluminum which will then be covered in a clear coat, while nice in appearance, it's very delicate in nature, IIRC on the 73-4 B Body hand crank sunroof handle well it has a copper base under the nickel/chromium plating, the only place that I know of that can copper/nickel/chromium plate a plastic part the way the factory had done is Advance Plating in Nashville Tenn.

The biggest problem with that part is not plating it, but rather removing what's left of the old plating without ruining the plastic. Advanced might be able to remove it with a reverse chrome process, they'll be able to tell you.

Rather than replate the well, maybe a NOS, or excellent used might do?


I haven't played with mopar sunroofs for a while, but these guys do

I've had good luck using the electrolysis rust removal set up to remove the old plating. I set up the system and use the plated plastic piece as the anode and the plating slowly goes away.....

I believe CVV has been out of business for years..

Though CV Vacuum Platers still comes up on the internet I don't believe they are still in business unless they started back up. Here is a post from 2010 that talks about it:

As mentioned, removing the old stuff is the biggest problem. Most plastics aren't affected by mild acids so you could try soaking this (or a test piece) in something like metalprep or a Drano solution. Once the plating is gone one option would be someone that does "spray chrome". This is basically a paint process but you can't tell the difference once its done. Over the past few years guys doing this have sprung up all over the place.

Try Pauls. They have been advertising plastic plating for a while. There results on any type of metal is great, I would have to assume they put the same quality into plastic.

Yes had arm rests done and satisfied with results.

Yes I have used vacuumorna-metal on interior dash bezels with great results, Frank is a stand up guy and delivered the parts when he said. Earlier I suggested Paul,s but I suggested that for exterior parts, I believe they plate exterior stuff triple plated just like metal.
