Group 24 Yellow Cap Battery

Group 24 Yellow Cap Battery - 01/30/16 02:56 AM

Mine just died. It's been about 10 years, so I feel like I got my money's worth out of it, that's for sure. Looking around it looks like one of the manufactures of these has gone out of business. Worse yet, it looks like the prices have increased substantially since I bought my last one. Anyone have any recommendation on whose got the best deal on these?

Thanks!

Gut it and install an Odyssey batt in it. That's what I intend to do when mine dies.

I'm considering the gut-job, but I'd prefer a replacement. I've heard a few nasty stories about going down that route I'd rather avoid if I can still get a decent replacement.

I got one from Classic but was on back order for a couple months.

Are the batteries from Antique the gel/matt cell type?

I gutted my battery last month – wasn’t sure what to expect, but figured whatever it was it wouldn’t be pleasant. I was happy to find this inside the casing. Not sure how old it is - bought it used in 2010 and at that time I was told it was only a year old.

If you decide to replace it, and want to sell the dead one let me know. Looking for a yellow
Cap battery to gut.

Thanks for the input guys! KWF340, I appreciate the pic. I will check mine to see if it's from the same vendor. It is the sealed type so fingers crossed that it is and I'll cut the bottom out. How tight a fit is that battery in there?

I did have a few requests on the battery core. If I get cold feet I'll let you guys know.

Wouldn't you have to drill holes in the bottom to get the acid out before you cut the bottom out?

If your talking about KWF340s, it looks like it's a completely sealed battery inside the MoPaR casing. I hope he'll clarify, but if that's the case the job just got a whole lot easier and makes a lifetime of replacements worth the effort.

Yes the "maintenence free" Antique Auto batteries are the sealed small battery inside the casing of your choice...Antique's battery caps can be spun off and that sealed battery can easily be seen inside the casing...

Next step would be to find a cost effective battery to use in the casing...Not long ago a suitable battery might cost more than the complete unit you're trying to replace.

Now, with the battery prices going up without any competition in place it might be worth the effort..

Yes, there was a completely sealed battery inside which made it really easy to gut. An Odyssey PC925 fit with no problems. Just had to lengthen the existing cables to reach the new terminal locations (terminal-side down). You might be able to make it work without lengthening the cables by putting the terminal-side up, but it gets tight in there and it may be difficult to make the connection.

More or less. Once you cut around the perimeter the only thing holding the battery in the case is the two cables (which are relatively short). The tricky part is reaching the lug bolts to disconnect the cables from the battery. Once disconnected, the battery drops out.

I bought a Delco battery pulled off all the labels, ground my yellow caps a bit so they pushed in, Doesnt say Mopar on top, but all black smooth battery with yellow mopar caps. Looks better than just an over the counter battery
