1970 Cuda Console - 10/13/15 03:50 AM

I am restoring my 70 console and I am trying to determine the correct screws and whether there is a cable for the holding the door when it opens.

I would appreciate a photo of the screws and cable of a correct console glove box.

Thanks.

I just went through about 5 or 6 consoles over the last year so I can help out a bit. Nearly all seemed to have at least some mismatched hardware so I spent some time trying to sort everything out. Here is a picture of the console door cable and special shouldered screws for it. The screws are tough to find in my experience, but a cable seems to pop up on ebay every once in a while if you need one. You could also probably fab one up easy enough out of an old bicycle cable and some electrical eyelets.

Installed. The console lock here is a repop which is why the key looks different.

The console top plate screws are oddball #8 x 3/4" chrome but with a #6 oval head. I bought a box from here-

Here is some more of the console hardware. Not shown are the screws which hold the door halves together, the hinge screws, and the lock screws.

Ok here is the door hardware. At the top are two original lock screws, which I found replacements for at Home Depot - #6 x 1/2 pan head screws. I guess they were originally zinc but I used stainless. In the middle are the 3 top console door screws - #6-32 x 1/2 oval head. And at the bottom are the six hinge screws, 3 for the door, and 3 for the console base- an original on the left, and some #8 x 3/8 pan head screws I used as replacements.

I was looking @ every console @ the Nats & English Town this year to see which ones had the cable for the door, from what I found only 70s have the cable or had the cable cause the screw holes where still there where the cable was.I made the mistake of adding a cable to a later one many years ago case I thought it was cool & one of those things where some hade them & some didn't.
