A12 starter motor date code?

A12 starter motor date code? - 09/30/15 12:05 AM

I have an original starter motor with aluminum housing cast date code of 5/69 & stamped assembly date of 279 or 27th week of 69. Would this be an acceptable date code for an A12 starter. Thanks in advance.

27th week of 1969 puts you into July for assembly....latest A12 cars I am aware of rolled off the line in late June I believe...probably to late for a factory installed starter in an A12 car.

I am guessing the part number on the starter is 2875560? The very late VIN A12 Super Bees did have this starter versus the most common 2095150.

I agree with LR 69.5, a date code of 27 9 puts you into the week of the 4th of July 1969 for the manufacture of this starter. The last week of assembly at Lynch Road for all cars appears to be the 28th week of 69.

The latest component build dates I have seen on A12 cars is in the week of 26 9, and those are EAD's. I think you have an early 1970 starter.

Hope this helps.

Starter part number is 2095150. Must be for a very late 69 car or even produced as a service parts piece.

BigD you mentioned in this thread late A-12 production cars came through with the later 1.5 hp 2875560 part numbered starters. I have long suspected this since I have seen "560"s dated april '69 but was not able to verify the information in print or picture. Have you seen A-12 survivors with this starter or do you have any engineering documentation that references the change over? I'm just trying to give my customers accurate feedback when they call and would appreciate your help in verifying this change. Thanks for posting!

Don't have an A12 car. Just trying to research the motor to see what I have.

Yes, I have seen "original" A12 Bee's with the 560 starter. Did I pull date codes from the starters, no, but have no reason to suspect them incorrect.

Below is the WM23M9A309948 5600 mile survivor A12 Bee. I have seen the 560 in Bee's down to the 306XXX VIN range.

The only factory reference I have seen to the 560 starter in place of the 150 starter is in the parts manual. If someone else has more information on this, please post.

This would all be ASSuMEing that the dates on the starter jive with assembly dates on the car in question ...

Just so we have no ARSES around here, another piece of factory literature is attached referencing the 560 starters in 1969 model year cars. TSB D69-8-10.

I can't thank you enough for posting this valuable document. Up to this point we have advised customers that, based on our observations of dated starter housings, the "560" gear housings were available for assembly as early as April 1969. This confirms that observation and put us on firmer ground. Thanks, again for taking the time to post this. It also gives me additional parts list numbers for potential purchases.

Bill...

Not sure what you are asking. The 2095219 nose piece is matched with the 2095150 housing for a correct set up.

The 2875560 housing is matched with the 2875553 nose piece to be correct.

The 219 piece you show above is dated January, 1969. A12 build dates start somewhere in mid March, so this piece could be mated with a later dated 150 housing to be correct. It is a little early for the A12 cars in my opinion.
