71 340 shaker cuda negative battery cable question. - 02/17/15 01:38 AM

Where does the negative battery cable on a 71 340 shaker cuda connect off of the battery? Is it the same hole as the "shaker base plate support" attaches in the front of the driver side cylinder head? Maybe it is relocated to the intake manifold on a shaker car? Can't find a single clear picture on the net.

The cable connects to the same front of the head location as the shaker foot support.

Made more sense that way since a foot bracket would have to be removed before a neg cable which could be just as easily disconnected at battery end.
Those feet brackets were the first thing a mechanic tossed when having to work on an engine, carb ,etc, told to me by a mechanic from back in the day who said he couldn't stand the things sticking up and getting caught on sleeves, etc.

Not sure I'm following? It wouldn't make sense for the negative battery cable to be between the head & SHAKER foot bracket, the lug on the cable end wouldn't sit flat/square & a good ground/tight fastener isn't going to happen.

Do both bolt heads for the air cleaner base plate "L" brackets face forward?

Correct 340-4V shaker foot bracket placement.
Most feet I have seen were installed after the neg cable end and both with the flat side facing the engine, thus giving the cable a secure placing as well as the heater hose bracket on the other side.

I believe that's what I will go with. Install cable, then install shaker foot flat side to motor. Thanks for the replies.

I haven't noticed, there are several people selling repro 340 shaker baseplate feet and L-shaped brackets. Are the repros correct? The weld nut is on a different side of the L-bracket P/S vs. D/S.

Correct

incorrect

Both sets pictured are brackets I had made up. I did them wrong the first time around.

No, you did just the LH one the first time around.

I know! Ronny Holland pointed it out to me. I never noticed the difference. I had a few redone but stopped selling them when the market got flooded.

This was my one foray into repro parts... It was an eye opener on getting the details right and getting the timing right - I missed on both counts. My hats off to the guys that get it right.

6bblgt - If you bought one of the wrong ones from me, let me know. I think I still have some correct RH ones left.
