1967 Rearview Mirror Story?

1967 Rearview Mirror Story? - 01/18/15 04:06 AM

What is the story behind the 1967 rearview mirror in my Barracuda coupe? It seems to be a bit different than the '68 mirrors in two ways. First is the stalk is is about 4.5" long (from ball to allen screw). The second is that the mirror is slightly convex. Was this only on some cars/models or across most of the '67 Plymouth and Dodge lines?

1967 is a bastage year for A-Body's, so many new things and so many things that were changed in 1968. I only care about A-Body's, so I can't comment on the other junk...

OK, let's start there. What A-bodies came with a fun house mirror and/or long stem?

Re: 1967-70 Rearview Mirror Puzzle - 01/24/15 04:26 AM

Seems the correct original brackets and mirrors are a puzzle not limited to a-bodies or 1967.
Mirror variations include:
flat or slightly curved;
night-day black push button, toggle switch (like mine above), or black square push-pull toggle;
brushed finish sharp edge, black finish sharp edge, black finish with protected edge, and later a black protected back and edge.

Stem variations include: teardrop, shaped I beam, cylindrical; chrome and brushed finish.
Brackets variations ?

Looking at ebay etc some of the brackets have numbers cast in them, but they don't seem to match part numbers?

Over FABO, another '67 Baracuda owner has had push button mirrors on his cars.
So even within a model year and body it seems a bit of a mystery.

Here's a moparts thread on B body mirrors I got some info from.

Maybe I should do a mirror poll or questionaire so we can build a little database.

Sorry bout that, another attack of A-Body elitism if there is such a thing! I looked at two mirrors I had in the shop today and one has the normal switch and the other has the push buttons. Not sure where the push button mirror came from though...
