M28 Code---front bumper periphery

-What got put on an E Body with this option.

-Did M28 make it onto the fender tag of a 1971 E Body.

-I have seen it on a 1971 Challengers fender tag but I have some questions about that tag being made up.

Stand alone option.

It's on my tag and sheet. IIRC, its up with the M codes 2 line from top. Like where they are in the green stripe 71 being discussed now.

I have other examples on tags too. Don't have access to those pics right now though. The cars that have then typically have other molding options, like A46, but that is just coincidence. They tend to be cars optioned up some.

I have tag info on two A78 cars with M28. And the loaded Juliano sunroof car has M28. My car has it and it's not an A78 either. All 4 of those are A46 though. That's just 4 cars off the top of my head.

Stand alone option. So what parts are put on a Challenger once someone by ordering a car and the M28 Option is generated. If it is a stand alone option then it will have nothing to do with other options such options as in the M moulding options. I have seen it on a few Challenger fender tags but that is just a letter and a number put together. What I am asking it what are the exact parts or pieces that this code is referring to that are put on a Challenger.

It was three pieces of wide trim around the headlight buckets & front of the hood to give a Challenger a 'loop bumper' appearance.

So Barry that is all that is on this option M28. Could the Wide Hood and Fender Moulding been ordered with any other options or group of an options via the A codes. It looks like everyone has said it is a stand alone code. Just asking this because I know of a car with the wide hood moulding and is not coded for it on the fender tag, have not seen the broadcast sheet. I also looked at a 1971 Cuda years and years ago that had power windows and it was not coded on the fender tag but on the Broadcast Sheet. I did not go back and take a second look to buy the car after seeing that is was not coded on the Fender Tag.

I also find it odd that Chrysler double coded some options like the Spoilers both front and rear. A45 and then code J68 and J81 and then only code rubber bumpers on the Broadcast Sheet. I guess you would of had to work in Office of Chrysler to understand why some things were done.

Thanks for Answering.

It is definitely a standalone code, though as others have pointed out, the M28 is often ordered with the A46 'SE' moulding package and rocker mouldings.

In my experience, the M28 should always be on the tag as the body department needed to drill holes in each fender and in the hood to mount the moulding.

It is possible that the car you know had the moulding put on later by the dealer. A buyer could have ordered A46 and figured that they were getting everything, until such point as the car was delivered.

Otherwise, with Chrysler, anything was possible.

As for exact parts and pieces, there would be:

3 'wide chrome' potmetal pieces - 2x fender, 1x hood
6 black plastic retainer clips to locate the fender mouldings

Attaching hardware (panhead screws for the fenders, short, bright green hex head machine screws for the hood piece with 3 dimples each, and speed nuts for the studs on the hood piece)

And if the car had a stripe, the part number was different for M28 cars -- the front was just a bit shorter to accommodate the moulding.

You could not get M28 and rubber bumpers.

Not sure if it's called out that you couldn't get N94 fiberglass hood with it either. I have a feeling the vertical studs in the center piece molding will not be long enough.

Me I like to see the general pictures of the Challenger but 6bblgt asked if you had pictures of the emission stick on the back window. Just the usual pictures side front back engine and interior. Myself and others like cars that are not restored to death and are somewhat original but what ever condition the Challenger is in the pictures is ok with me.
