Re: 70 cuda with VX9... question about this - 08/09/14 11:48 PM

There were about 100 '70 BS23 cars with two-tone paint (V02). They used the vinyl top trim to separate the two colors. & Yes, that makes them pretty rare.
..... but VX9 isn't a valid code for a black vinyl top (V1X) or a black painted roof (TX9).

Re: 70 cuda with VX9... question about this - 08/09/14 11:53 PM

Right directly above the FC7 code on original fender tag , where the roof color is it says VX9.
Its a V code dana 60 auto cuda

IMO that is a repro tag. The spacing is all off and you can see that rows 3 and 4 are stacked so closely that they are actually touching. Another thing is that some of the LA built car tags had a completely different font.

If the tag is so legit why did you take the picture down?

Re: 70 cuda with VX9... question about this - 08/10/14 01:22 AM

OP used the words original a bit to much, why even mention if it is , also i agree with above why are they running and hiding now?

Re: 70 cuda with VX9... question about this - 08/10/14 01:37 AM

Are G37 and N97 1970 codes? They were both on the tag.

Re: 70 cuda with VX9... question about this - 08/10/14 01:44 AM

N95, N96 and N97 were all on the tag, were those available on an N96 car made in L.A.?

Both font styles could be found on LA car tags

Re: 70 cuda with VX9... question about this - 08/10/14 02:10 AM

Cool I get it. It confirms why I haven't seen that roof code before. Now is it ok with the moparts community that I take it off as my question has been answered? LOL

Scott, I've seen a lot of LA cars and don't recall ever seeing a large font LA car built before January 1970. Plus thats the same SPD as the 124286 in question.

I can't read the tag on my cell phone, what's the SPD?

Both are B08 November 8th

I concur, I don't have any large font examples that early either.

I do, my original M46 car from 826, and my slant six also, L.A. from 820. Do you want me to post the tags?

Large font LA in 1969

Re: 70 cuda with VX9... question about this - 08/10/14 03:14 AM

I thought I'd seen earlier 1969 dated examples but didn't have any pics to post to back up my fuzzy memory. They used both style stamping machines at the LA plant, and they used them at the same time as one another as well, so there was no dead set dates for one or the other when both were being used. I have examples of the thin font style back into the early 1960's but don't recall when the large font style started appearing.

N97 was used both in 1970 and 1971.

In 1971 you will also find N98 (Exhaust Emissions Standards Label) along with N97.

I see no issues with the OP's tag. There must be a third "font" for LA cars.

Re: 70 cuda with VX9... question about this - 08/10/14 11:46 PM

I thought I explained this well enough for everyone and I posted it for all to see. The car is not mine, and was just trying to confirm something I had never seen. Obviously I know why now. Don't understand why the hostility. I even reposted it for a couple of others to see . Once that was over.....I deleted it. Is it against the MOPARTS LAW to delete a post? Its not my freakin car. I can imagine when the guy who owns it sees the post anyhow. I guess Ill have to hear it from him too. Damn, just trying to learn something new. I could have never posted the tag??? This crowd loves to pile on. Good to see that nothings changed here.

Because the free answers to your questions that people take time out of their lives to answer are not intended only for you to see or learn from.

You are not the only person who will ever have or had this question or type of question. So people who know and post answers hope to help others with the same question currently or in the future.

The car will be looked at by other persons in the future. Cars mostly outlive owners. So arm that person with the right knowledge ahead of time.

Don't you believe others have the right to "just trying to learn something new" too??

Re: 70 cuda with VX9... question about this - 08/12/14 05:51 PM

If it were my car I would have kept up. However, Im not going to break it to the owner that the tag isn't real. Not my place to do so. Somebody else can break that news to him. Nor do I even want that argument and hit him with "just go look on moparts , I posted about your car and everyone says its a repop". Again, not my car, and I shouldn't have posted about it in the first place. Was just curious as I haven't seen that before. There is enough knowledge in this post already without my postings anymore.

I agree with you that people piled on. You don't have a lot of posts here. IMHO, rather than get cr@ppy and hostile, why not explain nicely why most replying people do not like post's deleted. And that will help your ability for future responses to questions answered.

I agree that it is not a Moparts Rule that you can't delete a post.

I don't know who owns this car and I doubt many if any others do. And if they do, I bet they already know about the tag.

I don't think you would have got as correct or as good of answer without the picture of the tag. Double edged sword with that.

Anyway you look at it, you know more now about reading fender tags than you did before.

That knowledge will help you make more informed buying decisions in the future. And could prevent you from valuing something incorrectly causing you disappointment and $$$.

It was removed for a short time, most didn't like it.

The best solution is Quote instead of Reply for the first response to the OP.
