Who's installed torsion bars on a rotisserie car?

Who's installed torsion bars on a rotisserie car? - 06/04/14 11:34 PM

So I'm a little stuck. My A12 is on my rotisserie and the front suspension, A arms etc, and hanging loose without the T-bars in. The Torsion bars can be installed so that if the car is right side up, the front suspension is under load (from the bars) and pushed way down toward the ground. They can also be installed where the front suspension is not maxed out toward the ground, but I don't know which way is correct.

This scenario would be the same if you were installing the T-Bars on a car on Jack Stands.

I guess the best question would be: When T-Bars are installed correctly, and the car is raised off the ground with zero load, how far down / what angle should the A-Arms be positioned?

I also could use some advice / direction on how to adjust the bolt that adjusts the ride height.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Maybe pictures will help.

Does this look right, or is the suspension being forced too far down?

Here is the passenger side. Torsion Bar is in, and A-Arms are under load of the T-Bar. Obviously when the weight of the car sits on the suspension the the Torsion bar will twist and the A-Arms will move north.

I need to know if this is correct or do I need to pull the T-Bar back out and move the LCA "up" and reinstall the torsion bar so that the suspension is not so far down.

If this sounds all wrong, I'm sorry..this is the first time I've rebuilt a mopar suspension system.

FYI
Your spindle bolts are installed backwards.

The suspension should be at the bottom of its travel with the shocks free as well. The t-bars should slide in with very little effort.

Since there are only 6 flats on the bars, I doubt you could install them wrong.

Thanks. Yeah, I wasn't sure...I'm still mocking up the disc brake conversion. I'll turn them around when I put it together for good.

So with the shocks installed, all suspension should be hanging free, then install the torsion bars?

I'd disconect/remove the shocks and remove the bump stop for the UCA.

You need to get a FSM, it will tell you everything you need to know.

The shocks don't need to be installed but if they are they have to be disconnected or they'll raise the suspension enough that the bars won't slide in. Bump stops didn't interfere when I put mine in.

If you're restoring the car yourself a FSM sure would come in handy !!

Is the car still on the rotisserie?

How do you intend to install the engine/tranny?

Oh, you would have found out soon enough when you went to button up the rest of the brakes..

I would leave everything off the lca then hang them about seven to eight o-clock with adjusters out. They would be the last thing to be installed if mine. Like one said only six flats, hard to install wrong unless swaped side to side, L&R
