71 Cuda with fast ratio pitman arm original?

71 Cuda with fast ratio pitman arm original? - 03/07/14 01:58 PM

I am working on a 71 Cuda. Original 340 shaker hood car. Power steering pump is leaking and needs rebuilt. Noticed that it has a fast ratio pitman arm on it. Owner bought car new in 71 and tells me that steering is all original. Was fast ratio a 71 option?

Thanks,

Yes it was, on build sheet but not on tag. Have had several of them. Pretty sure it was a 340 thing only, you should also notice the date casting is after the T/A car period

I assume that the Cuda would be the same as indicated in the Dodge Challenger TSB. Looks like the owner needs to be careful with getting this unit rebuilt since it looks like there are a number of special parts. Any recommendations for a good rebuilder?

I am in Southern Md. Indian Head area.

I recommend Firm Feel Inc and ask for Dick, he is a good guy and does quality rebuilt work.

The Plymouth version of the TSB;

The box should have a large TA in the casting.

Thanks to all for the help and advice. The box does have the TA cast into it, so I suspect that it is original. In my original post I misspoke, the steering gear is leaking, not the pump. Anyway, I'll let the owner know what I found out and see how he wants to proceed. Thanks again for the help.

I have heard that the quick ratio steering came on all 3.91 rear differential cars. Any truth to this or did all 71 340 cars built after February 1 1971 come with the TA box.
Were they also not equipped with a power steering cooler?

The TSB implies ALL 71 340 after that date.

I've seen a 70K mine 71 340, A/C, auto, loaded, conv Challenger with quick steering.
