Undercoat last thing?? - 11/05/13 02:39 PM

Build sheet on My St.Louis built '67 GTX indicated
Car had shoulder belts, and also undercoat. I now have shoulder belts, and installation instructions
which show anchoring of Belts with large washer and
bolt thru rear wheel housing into eyelet. I'm assuming undercoat would be last, and applied over
washer and bolt head ??

Nothing written in stone when it comes to plant by plant procedures, vehicle lines, etc, etc, but usually bolts that were exposed to undercoating generally had a swat of masking tape applied to the bolt head, then undercoated....best to duplicate what WAS present on YOUR car, if you know, if not, there's many different interpertations, I'm sure others will post there findings

There are pictures online of a 68 Charger being built. The two I remember show the car up in the air right before "body drop" and then right after "body drop" where the workers are attaching everything.

In the pictures, I believe you can see that the interiors are installed. That tells me that the undercoating was one of the last things done before "body drop".

If there should be tape over the end of the fastener or if it should be covered with undercoating...I can't answer. However, I seem to remember Dave Walden's Valiant had undercoating completely covering the seat studs/nuts. Like Dayclona said, each plant had their own way of doing things.

Try and find the MCG issue a few years back that had Frank Badalson's 67 GTX survivor in it....a lot of good detail pics....or just call Frank and ask him.

Keep in mind that in that era, dealerships would upsell the buyer on additional undercoating that would obviously go on after the factory was done with the car. They had not invented the additional warranty thing yet.
