3438 173 and 3438 179 alternator applications needed - 09/02/13 05:04 PM

Hi all: What are the correct applications for these alternators? They are all dated 1970 and 1971. I have a few of them kicking around. I know what the 3438 171, 3438 172, and 3438 178 applications are, but not these. Thanks for your help.

173 is a 50-amp single pulley and 179 is a 60-amp double pulley.

The '70-'71 book doesn't list specific applications but, generally, the double pulley is for A/C applications and the higher amp units are for cars with more accessories. The 37 and 46-amp units are for strippers.

Here is a sheet from a '71 Satellite station wagon I owned. I actually still have the 173 alternator and just used it on my '71 GTX (had 8k original miles:-).

9 passenger wagon with: 225 /6, 3 spd manual (column shift), 3.55 open, AC, 11" drums, front sway bar, 14x6 HD wheels with dog dish caps.
