Anyone know the history on this car? - 08/09/13 04:47 PM

A couple of things just don't look right to me on these tags. Comments from anyone please.

If it is correct, that is a VERY early production car. Production for the new model year usually started around 01 Aug..... the "M" in the VON designates something special, not sure off the top of my head.

I have 100116. Mine is one of the "Announcement" show cars.

Almost everything looks identical - option-wise...except...

I don't have A28 on my tag or N97 either..both Noise reduction..Funny it shows the chrome tips too....is that normal with an N97 car? Also the spacing looks a little funny...but maybe not. R11 is the last thing on mine on the second tag...before the VIN.

I also have A67 on mine - window louvres.

Pics of mine. Restored. I have the broadcast sheet for it as well. AB - I think it was shown at the Texas show when new.

The show cars all came with 3.23 open rears and 22" rads (with shroud - lol). No axle package. Everything you could see on these cars was put on....stuff you couldn't see was standard. They did get disc brakes though...

Thanks , the car in question has 26 on the tag ...

the tags look different between the 2 cars ...

Looks like the A28 code, which is a noise reduction package, comes with max cooling, which would be a 26" rad.

Do you know why some cars come with both an A67 code and a J68 code on the same tag? I have a 71 Gran Coupe that has both codes on its tag, yours does too, but the one in question does not.

I was always under the impression N97 cars did not receive chrome tips or dual exhaust through the rear valance for that matter. The exhaust had turndowns just below the rear valance which did not have cut outs for the chrome tips.
However I could be sadly mistaken.

this might sound like a stupid question but...anyone got a pic of the shaker cable hole on any of these two cars-are any of these two the one that was the salt test car that roger gibson restored? the shaker hole on that car exited from a different spot on the firewall than what is the norm on 70-71 cuda`s. don`t know why it exited there as these were early 71 cars not early 70 cars.
all the best.

A contractor in the San Francisco CA area had a promo car restored and then sold it when the economy went south. I think this may have been the car. As far as I know it was pretty rough, missing drive train and fender tag. Chuck Hoffman may know more about it.

From what I've heard .....
If a car was damaged or had other issues (for example, ASC sunroof cars were also finished on this "line") that caused it to be pulled from the main assembly line it was moved to a "repair line" (I don't know Chrysler's actual name for this other line). When it was completed, final inspected, & door tag issued on this "repair line" the door tag was printed from a machine that had the typewriter font of 100010's tag.

Re: Anyone know history on any 1971 PROMO/PILOT 'Cuda? - 08/23/13 06:54 PM

..... to add to Ola's pre-production PILOT car info above:

I own BH23C1B100121, which I believe is pictured in the '71 Parts Catalog.

It is missing it's original fender tag, but I believe it was "CAR 000114".
GW3/GW3/H5X9/E24/D13/M85/J21/R11 - that's about it.

Were 1971 model year Plymouth e-body pre-production "pilot" cars - that survive today. The date coded parts on my car are from March/April '70.

Most of the first day production 70 LA built Barracuda's ended up in the Washington/Oregon/Idaho/Montana region. All the ones in which I've been able to identify the dealer have come from region 72 which is the Northwest. Thanks for posting that one Jason, didn't have it.
