1969 Superbee trunk lid fit issues - 05/12/13 04:13 PM

I'm having a hard time setting up my trunk lid before paint. The lid sits too far to the left, there is no adjustment for right and left. My question is, Has anyone tweaked or bent the hinges to make an adjustment? Is this a good repair or should I look for a different set of hinges? They are off the car and the pivot holes look ok. Thanks for the help!

Have you gave the lid a few good tugs(jerks) to the right? That's the only way I know of.

If you haven't tried it yet, you can adjust the catch thats bolted in the floor left or right to pull the lid to the right or left.

Exactly the way to "adjust" it left or right, open the lid, and rack it over to the "offending" side by shoving it hard...

We tried that and it works but the lid is hard to latch and release. I guess last ditch effort this will work.

We tried this, will try again, it acts as if we'll hurt it going too far. Thanks for the input!

I had the same problem with a challenger lid and my next door neighbor who is a body repairman said he could fix it but I might not want to be there when he does. So apparently they do get a little physical with them.

Yeap, that's what I tell some customers watching me do panel alignment, hoods, trunk lids sometimes need to be "racked" hard to align them, 68-70 B body doors, usually have a gap top or bottom when closed when viewed from the rear qtr, the only fix is to either man handle the doors top and bottom while open, and actually give it a twisting jerk to rack the door into shape, some guys will use a block of wood, and slam the door against the jamb,...you can't be afraid of racking a panel to make it "behave"
