70 Duster Tail Stripe - Which Version is 'Correct'???? - 04/29/13 02:39 PM

Okay, when looking at the tail light stripe on a 70 Duster, I've seen the bottom piece done two different ways and cannot figure out which one is correct? Does the 'v' cut in the stripe point down (which makes for a huge gap between the two) or does it point up (which creates less of of you take a look at this one, you'll see how the 'v' cut points down towards the ground and it makes that massive gap between the two stripes.

I had NOS stripes placed on my car back in 1979. The tail stripes are both parallel. I have a complete set of NOS stripes in storage. I will try to dig out the tail stripes and see if they are straight.

They installed the bottom stripe upside down in that picture

Great, thanks! I was informed that they each have a 'v' cut into them so they'll fit on the tail panel better. The upper stripe is pretty self explanatory as the key hole helps determine how the stripe goes on.

It's the lower stripe i'm unsure of. I've seen it installed both ways.

I've seen a lot of them installed this way. Could it be others are copying the FM3 car thinking it's correct?

I'm trying to find an original advertisement on a 70 340 Duster to see if they show the rear stripe but so far, no luck

It had the upper stripe and the sun baked it off, the outline is tough to see but clear, looks just like the lower stripe.

Great, thanks Scott! I figured it would be pointing down but it sure does look odd with that big gap in between the two stripes!

Here's some original rear stripes on a 71 Duster: Also notice the Duster cloud does not say "Duster 340", only "Duster" as this was how they came in 71.

Also in 71 only, the 340 callout numbers where part of the lower pinstripe and not separate decals like they were in 72. There where no dust swirl in the rear either in 71.
