Repairing Bench Seat - 12/12/12 01:27 AM

Im sure I have not been the only one with sagging springs on the drivers side of the bench seat. I pulled the seat out thinking that the springs are broke. Well none of them are broke but all those tiny wires that run thru the burlap are just hanging there. I assume they are part of the cause for the sagging. Has anyone ever repaired a seat on there own or am I better off finding a upholstery shop

You can cut some foam rubber in the shape of a cone to tightly fit in the springs and that will stiffen the seat up a bit.

I've read you can weld the wires back together.
The success of which I'm sure depends on your skill level and the actual welder used.
A torch or stick probably won't get you there but a MIG or TIG might.

I took a piece clothesline wire and interweaved it over and under each spring in the middle and tied the ends on the springs on both ends. Then I hog ringed the wire to each spring. I think it worked pretty good and there's good support.
