Repainting Ralley Rims

Repainting Ralley Rims - 09/21/12 03:04 AM

I'd like to repaint my 15" Ralley rims this winter from the existing Wheel Vintiques silver to the correct Mopar Argent Silver and then clear coat them. What type and brand of clear is compatable with the Mopar Argent paint? Also, they say that the Wheel Vintiques have powder coated their rims but they really scratch off easily. Makes me think maybe they aren't really powder coated but does anyone see problems with roughing them up and then shooting with rattle can Mopar Argent?
Thanks

If it comes off that easy, I'd take them down to bare metal.

If you clear them they still won't look right imo.

I'd blast them clean and then just paint them with no clear.
I was able to get lacquer paint for mine and they are just like original and have held up now over 8 years now.

To do it right, you should spray the rear and insides with semi gloss black and then paint the front with argent.

Repo center cap, I never used them.

Here's the paint I used.

I did mine in smudge gray...

With the reverse side in black...

The center domes are argent...

No clear-holding up well after 20 years...
