Could you drill out the 69 sway bar holes and weld the top only holes in a full 1970 B-body K-memeber and it would "look" the same as this 69 1/2 hybrid K-member??

Or are there more difference up top?

A little off topic, but in 1972 the did the same thing with A-bodies. This is a 72 Dart 2dr hardtop with /6, disk brakes, and 8 3/4 rear end. Notice the 68-72 type suspension linkage. The bottom half of the K-member has the 73-76 type thru hole type sway bar.

Yes you could do that. The welding that would have to be done in the 70 location would have to be pretty good. Something like using a brass rod so you could get the correct depth when you plug weld the top, but it can't look like the two pieces are connected, and there will be some filling and sanding that would have to be done because there is going to be some perocity visible from the bottom up. The other issue is the date code that is currently on the K-member (not knowing what it is) is going to be too late for your Daytona. The other issue is that the top shell (or the 69 piece) will have a depression where a steering bracket is located and the 70 does not. This depression would be visible from underneath looking through the left-hand opening at the bottom of the K-member. Basically, if you look at those things and compare the one you actually have to a 69 you will see the difference. Hope this sheds some light. Vance

I just looked through my K-members and I have a correct K-member with a date of 123rd day of '69, first shift. So it reads "1239-1". Let me know if this would be of any use. Vance

Just thinking about options people have if they are looking to work with what they have. I don't currently have a car that is effected by this.

And I was wondering if there was more to it then just the holes. There was. Thanks for pointing out the depression on the top half.
