In a previous thread I started, the general conclusion was that the first choice was dying OEM panels to match the interior (second was going to Just Dashes for an overlay, third keeping your own and last going for a repop). The question now is how have people recolored their door panels?
What I know now is that the plastic in the panels (polypropalene (spelling?)) does not take color very well. I have a panel from the factory that was colored bright blue that is flaking off, all the rest were cast as bright blue.
What tricks are there out there to promote adhesion, what brand of paint did you use, did you use a flex promoter like you use on the new bumpers? If you did not like the results of your attempt to redye, what did you think happened?
I have looked through the excellent archive here and did not see anyting on this subject but have seen other references to the use of black magic and witchcraft (and I do not want to contact my ex wife for the latter).

Go with the SEM cleaner, adhesion promoter and the dye.

Can you get custom colors? I need bright blue and I do not see anything close in the SEM chip charts.

A friend of mine used paint from a company called Mopaint on his Challenger blue interior but you may find it mixed locally at and autobody paint supply house in your area. You really dont want to use a spray can for door panels but you can if they are just lightly faded. JustDashes sold a kit (fade away kit) for dying interior panels and it worked very well but you had to send them a kick panel so they could match up the color. I have also seen the re-covered panels by Just Dashes and I think they look almost too good.

Clean, Clean, Clean and then use the adhesion promoters.
With all the plastic on newer cars we are benefiting from the technology that improves paint to plastic adhesion.
However, Paint will not stick to polypropelene forever. The interior of my Challenger is dyed/painted blue. I'm trying to convince my wife that the best protection from dinging the panels is being naked. She's thinking sweat pants and sweatshirt. OH well!

Thanks for all of your input. A local Mopar guy, one of the firefighters I work with, also added the recommendation of having the panels media blasted by someone with experience with plastics. Most of the crud is in the grain. I have in the past used a tooth brush to clean the grain out without damaging it.
The plan is to dye black panels to brite blue. These panels are mechanically in sound shape. Lots of cleaning with lots of soap followed by SEM cleaner to clean off the soap, followed by SEM adhesion promoter. Then the paint will go on.
