1971 GK6 'cuda - Argent or Painted Grille? - 05/07/12 02:12 AM

I have a 1971 'cuda that I am restoring. The car was originally painted GK6. When I got it 20+ years ago it had an original paint argent grille in it, but I don't know if the grille is original to the car. Car has a mid-April 1971 build date. I'm trying to determine if the car should have a body color grille or an argent grille? Only have pieces of the buildsheet.

I thought only certain colors were availible with painted grilles.

And I don't think GK6 was one of those colors. I'd think it would be listed somewhere in the factory literature on http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/

Same goes for rubber bumpers, but there may have been different number of colors.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that GK6 WAS supposed to be included in the painted grille group...I don't have anything in proof from Chrysler, just what has been printed in some of the rags back in the day from what they "heard"...did a google search on GK6 and found this...8/20/70: When a Cuda is order with one of the following paint codes the grill will be body color. [EB5], [FC7], [FE5], [GF7], [FJ6], [GK6], [EV2], [GW3], and [GY3].

Cool it was availble!

Was it standard painted grille when those particular exterior colors were chosen with every 'Cuda model?

What are the paint codes availible for 71 Cuda rubber bumpers?

wasn't there also a cutoff date for the hi-impact paint rubber bumpers? 05/17/71 comes to mind? Think this infor was in a old Chrysler Power mag years ago - I have it, just can't get to it right now...

I dont intend to bring this off topic but....does anyone have any kind of breakdown at all of the 'Cuda color production for '71? Especially GK6.

I just scanned this from 09/1990 Chrysler Power Magazine between periods of Rangers/Capitals - researched by a JHO Sloan and submitted by Dave Freiburger - don't know how accurate and doesn't even list GK6 - hope it shows up ok

I can tell you that Chrysler Power item has a lot of items that don't match Galen's numbers, and I would side with Galen on this.

Additionally, for whatever info I've collected over the years, it seems that 1971 color numbers are not as complete as 1970's. Years ago, a guy in Ohio (owned the two-tone V-code '71) showed me a Galen printout with general Barracuda numbers without specifics by model/trim level. But then, a number of years ago, someone on this site (Alan Gallant?) had something that narrowed that info down (for only a few colors). Alan's list doesn't have GK6 by model, but it shows that 977 US-spec Barracudas (all three models) built in that color.

That's rarer than I had expected.
