1970 coronet R/T convert ? Pictures added/new pics - 04/17/12 02:27 AM

I just bought a 1 onwer all stock unrestored R/t conv my question is the car was stripe delete I have never saw one like this is that rare enough that I should leave it off or is it no big deal and put it on.I don`t want to hurt the value because 1 day it will be for sale. Also if 95 % factory paint could be saved not super shiney but not cracked up and all still there would it be worth more as is or restored with fresh paint. Its ff4 green with white inside and black top I just don`t no if I should restore or presurve whats there money wise.I will work on pictures so you all can check it out.

It's worth trying to save as much paint as you can if it will stay say 75% original. It seems a lot of 70 R/T convts. came stripe delete. It's a rare and desirable car no matter what.

This sounds like a car that was recently discussed in another thread. Seems like I remember seeing a couple photos. From your description it sounds like you should leave it as close as possible to a survivor. A restoration will be big $ and most certainly most of the $$$ spent will not be re-gained in additional value on the car. Post a few photos for better input from others.

Save the paint, touch as little as possible. Leave stripe delete.......Waiting for pictures!

Re: 1970 coronet R/T convert ? - 04/17/12 12:49 PM

About 25% of 1970 Coronet R/T convertibles were stripe delete. That would be around 60 of the 236 cars produced for sale in the US.

Re: 1970 coronet R/T convert ? - 04/17/12 03:42 PM

Just remember; they are only original once. If the paint (or a large percentage of it) is presentable enough to save, then save it.

The stripe isn't as important because it is relatively easy to remove. Myself, I'd leave it stripe delete.

I too seem to remember a recent thread on this car and look forward to more pics.

Do not add the stripe. The more you leave it alone the more it is worth.

I posted in wiw section I lost the cord to up load pics should have one monday. The car has set from 1978 untill now I am going to get it running touch up the quarter and clean/buff for days and enjoy it a little and sell it this summer I can not afford to keep it long term.I just don`t want to hurt the value, I restore cars for a living so to me its worth more to me all factory than a rust bucket thats been welded up and mudded from front to back. Its not a high option car its got 440 4 bbl auto in console buckets ralley gauges tach 3 spd wipers stripe delete F4 paint black top white inside, its got all the original paper work and 1 onwer before me.The top is showing its age and the seat have a few places but I will leave it all original just cleaning it good removing 30 years of shop dust and dirt.

Looks without the stripe.
Sounds like a neat car though, clean it up and drive it.
Can't wait to see the pics.

Here are a few pics. Will have better ones coming in the next few days. Left front fender has been buffed in the pictures. After the pictures were taken, I finished buffing left side. After the hours of cleaning and buffing, does anyone have an idea of the value of car when in running condition? I am getting lots of interest and have nothing to compare it to.

Re: 1970 coronet R/T convert ? - 04/21/12 02:49 AM

So far the left side has buffed great the biggest challenge is going to be cleaning the inside he was a mechanic so there is 35 year old grease and oil to clean but I found the original warranty paper work in the dash the car was sold new at the dealer in winston salem- colony dodge.I think everything under the hood is as it left the factory, I am missing 1 of the magnum 500 wheels, and the tail pipes have been changed and the radio is MIA.

Ok, these pics do nothing for me. I ll take a stab and say $20-25K. I could be low depending on condition.

Re: 1970 coronet R/T convert ? - 04/23/12 11:05 PM

If it's fairly rust-free, a survivor is worth quite a bit I think.

I'm not fond of the stripes on '70 coronets/superbees anyways so cool it came stripe delete IMHO.

I would say maybe $40k if the car is as nice as it sounds.

I have got it sanded and buffed all over , cleaned the inside and cleaned the glass.I can`t belive how good it looks now I will get better pictures tomarrow. Iam going to try getting it running for the mopar meet at farmington I think people will flip over it.I can`t decide if I should dye the door pannels and seats or just clean them the beat I can and let them be.I took out the back seat and found the build sheet it says the wheel color is TX9 wich I think is black so i guess it had steel wheels and hubcaps wich I have but they have been widened so I will need wheels.
The only rust is behind the right rear wheel about the size of a dollar wich I am fixing and a little in the center of the trunk floor. This is A cool car I can`t wait to here it run

wow! Nice car. Don't mess with it. A survivor with that much documentation and a ragtop R/T. Wow!
Black wheels usually means full wheel covers.

W21 "rallye wheels" & W23 "road wheels" also have TX9 under "COLOR" on line 4 of a St. Louis b'cast sheet in '70.

Any updated pictures? Is this an original North Carolina car? Just looking at the wheel wells they look rusty, but maybe it's just dirt/mud?

Pics? sounds like you got a screaming deal. Assuming it's "only" a 440-4bbl auto, it would still be one of 203 (us production) '70 WS27U0 cars. I suppose it depends a little on what "very nice" means, but it sounds cheap to me.

Shouldn't there be R/T emblems on the rear quarters in place of the stripe ?
Posted By: 67RT

Re: 1970 coronet R/T convert ? - 05/03/12 05:01 PM

R/T emblems are on the faux scoops attached to the quarters, in front of the rear wheels.

It never left winston salem nc it has rust on the left side in front of the rear wheel about the size of my palm and on the right side behind the rear wheel about the same size it was a daily driver from new till 1978.I am trying to get it running this week for mopar meet at farmington and then try to sell it this summer I will post pictures next week all creaned up.
