Oil Pans- What's correct? - 01/28/12 02:58 PM

I thought my car had the original Oil Pan, but it doesn't.

It's a 70 E-body, 440 + 6.
What are identifiers of the different years, capacities?
What is the significance of the 3-digit number on them?
Who makes the the best repro's? (I know I had seen someone at the Nats with them)
What would I expect to pay for an good original?

My original 70 440-6 doesn't have any #'s on the pan and it's the same 6 qt pan as the hemi's used in 70. I've seen several with 402 pans on them but I don't believe that's "correct".

Yes, no numbers on a '70-'71 440HP, 440-6 and Hemi pan. The pan holds 6 qts with filter. MP reproduction is nice, P4529884. Make sure you get the correct 3/8" strainer to go with it.

The 402 is the 69 and older pan

No numbers on a 70 sixpack pan - the repo is close but not perfect

In '70 & '71 - the HEMI, 440+6 & 440HP used the same (no number) oil pan in E and B-bodies.

The 402 pan was used in '69 on b-bodies (earlier also) with 383s, 440HP, & 440+6 - it remained in use for '70 & '71 on E and B-bodies with 383s.

I inspected a 70 Six Pak 'Cuda for a guy in California late last year and had to tell him it was not numbers matching after he put it on a lift so I could easily see the VIN number. To my suprise it had an 893 pan on it! I told him I would buy him a repro pan and change them out on my dime, he declined...

No , the hemi pan is deeper than the 402 pan. The 3/8" pickup can be bought new from MP , last time I bought it it ws not very expensive , cheapest source I found was Summit .

You are correct. I forgot that they carried over the 402 for the 383

Okay, this is where I'm getting hung up.

The notes say the P4529565 is for - 6 Quart, 3/8" Pipe for "RB" Engines

While the P4529564 is for - 6 Quart, 3/8" Pipe for "B" Engines

What's the difference between the two?

Where are you getting the 564 description from ? the 564 is the pickup for the 402 pan , I have purchased both of those pick ups about 4 years ago.

I only have a 2002 Mopar Performance catalog to go by and it doesn't say what pans they are for , I went out on a limb and bought them to find out .

I have a 2000 Mopar Performance catalog and am probably seeing the same information you're seeing in your 2002 catalog; a whole lot of nothing.

If you've bought the 565 and have confirmed it to be the correct one, that's the one I'll go with.

Thanks John, I appreciate it. I did talk to ZIPPY about it and he seemed certain your information is correct. So there's probably no need for you to go out of your way to check on it. The 565 is most likely the one.
