Charger trunk mat. Does this look NOS? - 01/16/12 10:42 PM

Seen this on ebay. Seller says it is nos. I e-mailed him to ask if it had a ink stamp with part number or vendor code on the underside. there is not. Also it is not smooth rubber on the underside. it has some kind of jute or texture. Anybody know anything on trunk mats? I saw a post elsewhere that indicated someone thought this was a older repro and not NOS.

NOS is not smooth on the back side. The nice reproductions were made by Motor City Originals in the '80's. They are smooth on the back side.

If could be NOS. I have found 3 different backing textures originally-textured rubber, spongy foam, and cloth.
However, given the pattern it would really only be correct for 1968.
Here's an original 1968 mat.

im familiar with 2 types of backing on the 69 trunk mats, the grid/pointy type pattern, and the sort of bubbly splatter bedliner look

but they both have the tan plaid side that faces up

the 2 68 mats you show appear to have very different face up patterns ??

i have never seen that "burlap" on the back of an original trunkmatlike the one in the auction has

also, there was a trunk mat repo made in the 80s by dales that has pattern on the back side that is sort of a combination of the grid type pattern with a bubbly spatter look on top of it

Àfter seeing those pics I am with Tony on this one. Id say its a reproduction, likely an older attempt.
