On the 68 Hemi Darts and Cudas what was the stock flange to flange width of the Dana 60 used? Thanks

The Hemi A-bodies used a stock width B-body Dana, the housing flange width is 54 15/16"....the axle flange width is a little less than 60".

I always wondered about that...

Heard that was the reason for the '69 M-code Darts and Cudas only being available with an automatic.....no Dana that fit...is that true?

So the actual axle flange face to axle flange face is approx. 60" total. Is this correct?

I always heard superstock A-bodies used the '66-'67 B-body Dana housing (54.25" housing, 59.3" flange to flange, 59.55" assembly).

The 1968 Dana axle shafts have 30 splines

That statement would make the accuracy of rest of the quote suspicious.

The pic below shows a '68 Hemi Dart fresh from the factory, notice the wide track of the rear end.

Hello:
I have that same picture...Just quoting what is in the guide for those who may not have a copy.
Sure wish I knew then (and the money and connections) what I do now we would go out and measure mine. LOL

There are special offset rims to make up for the wider B-body axle width. For sure they did not shorten it down to A-body size for Dana's or 8 3/4.

Question is whether they used a 66-67 Dana and/or 8 3/4?

I think it's implied they used production assemblies and put the gears in them. Production for 1968 when they built the Super Stock cars was the 68-70 B-body width.

If they used 66-67 pieces they would be raiding Mopar parts inventory of non production parts.

Here's Troy's Hemi Dart clone with a 1968 date coded rear end, offset rims and as delivered tire size per factory specs.

Anyone else here ever notice that on some of the older photos taken of any of the original Hemi Dart's & Barracuda's that the rear wheels looked all different in the wheel wells, the rims off-set seems to differ from car to car.

.....the original rims were all the same but many of the racers had different rims made for the wider tires. The original part number was 2836903.
