E-body window louvers Quality ? - 11/29/11 04:31 PM

Does anybody know who makes the Louvers sold by Dales Cuda Shop? Has anyboby used or installed them? I was wondering how the quality was and how close they are to an original set.

I did I didn't really see anyone mention the Dale's Louvers. My thought is for the money they may not be so great, but I could be wrong.

Gene Gregory (Alhambra Auto Body) makes them. Alhambra, IL. As soon as I feel like spending a spare grand, I'll be getting a set from him.

About Gene Gregory....5 years ago...I purchased a set of rubber bumpers from him and they were great! 3 years ago I purchased louvers for my challenger from him. This is where my story starts.
I bought them for the Vegas Show. I sent him my money and waited and waited. I ran a check on the tracking and they were delivered..believe it or not to his address. He mistakenly put his own address for the delivery and my address for the return. Well now a couple of weeks now were shot and he was resending them back to me. Well I finally recieved them the week of Vegas and installed them in a rush ..and thought they looked a bit different......At the vegas show..one of the judges pointed out that they were cuda louvers. Good grief!!!!!!!!!!
I called him immediately and he said that he marked the louvers incorrectly and as soon as I got back home..to send them back and he would send me out challenger louvers. Now I have paid for shipping twice.
Once I recieved the challenger louvers I noticed that the holes in my roof and pins are in different locations ...good grief again! Cuda and challenger louvers will not interchange. So I drilled new holes and had to cover up the old holes.Great just what I wanted..holes in my roof and trunk panel. Onward....before I finished putting on the louvers I noticed 3 welds that had come undone holding the slats in place..I called him again....
To set this story straight-----Gene told me I could keep them and sell them or do whatever I wanted and regardless he would send me out another set......Which he did. I appreciated the offer but sent them back to him feeling guilty..I guess. At that point...I went to install the louvers again and realized that he only sent me out one pin. I called him again and he sent me out a pair (one extra) I want to state that during all this and after....Gene was apologetic and wanting to do the right thing. I had the feeling that gene has medical and memory issues...he couldn't remember who I was at times and I had to remind him even the following day after talking to him. I would not question his integrity or honesty. At that time apparently he was going in the hospital weekly and his daughter was taking care of him.---------I guess I felt and still feel sorry for him .I haven't talked to him since then. Hope all's well.

Still waiting for an answer to this question. And yes the Canadian made louvers fit great. I have a set.

Your correct in your assumption Gene has had many health issues over the last few years and more so over the last year. Gene, at times has been absent minded I can atest for that,I have dealings with Gene and I some times wonder why didn't he remember the conversation we had a few days ago and it's not like he doesn't know me. Well guys I do believe he has slowly been deleveloping the dreaded alzhiemers, don't QUOTE ME on this it's just a thought. Gene is still a very talented metal craftsmans and fabricator, and I have thought many times over the last 2 years you better buy a few things from Gene and put them away because very soon that parts supply line and talent will be gone forever.

My heart goes out to Gene. Looks like I will be buying a Cuda front elastomeric soon from him. I have known him for quite a few years through business & he has always been very nice any time I've seen him. I believe he is a man of integrity.

I have 1 last set of cuda louvers I can sell you.

I believe these are way better quality than the others available out there...others that have bought from me can probably chime in.

I did this because I wanted some for my own cuda clone, and when looking at the repros at the nats that were selling for $1200 and looked all crooked and wavy... I said NO WAY IM PAYING THIS MUCH FOR SOMETHING I CANT USE, IS ALL WARPED AND LOOKS BAD! So I lent some originals from a friend and copied them as faithfully as possible, down to the welds and eveything. And made em fit right and look nice.

Other repros are all wavy and wont lay right on your car without some tweaking...also the louvers are all wavy and not parlallel to each other..and on these louvers its not easy to correct that because they are all welded and when you try to tweak them to make em nice and parallel they all get all over the place.

I have one last set of cude louvers, its my last set i wont be making anymore.

Also my repro hinges are hollow at the back like the originals, the other repros are cast solid.

another shot. check out how nice they are. And they are all prepped ready for final scuff and paint. No I dont paint em organosol, better paint em right before mounting since organosol is so delicate and can get rubbed, scratched in sshipment.

My intention when writing about Gene was not to slander his name or reputation. When I read negative statements regarding him...people might not understand the whole situation.I thought that people should know that regardless of what they hear....during my whole ordeal (things just happen).....(God's little tests)..that I never once felt that I was being cheated or neglected. Gene was always aplogetic and wanting to make it right...and at that time ...he was running up a muddy hill. LOL..bless his soul!.

I think "Logan 426" nailed it with his commentary.

Gene and I finally got it together but you know... one day I'll be in Genes shoes...and hopefully someone will be patient and understanding as well.-----------------In hindsight.....it's these stories that everyone has involving crazy things that we can all look back on with out car buddies and have a good laugh...

i want louvers for my 71rr and Gene is the only game i have seen.
i guess with this latest news i will try to get my order in real soon before i end up missing out.
i wish domingo would of made them for a 71 rr
can you modify that cuda one?

he would have a easy sale

Contact Mike AKA "Daclona" on here...Pretty sure he has access to some repop 71 louvers...71 RR had fiberglass style louvers not metal..

I would love to see a side by side comparison of the Canada louvers sold by Herb's and the USA made louvers sold by Dale's. I can't believe the market for Louvers is large enough for two places to make them.
