69 Dart and 360

my buddy and i spent the day taking out a 408 and trying to put back a 360 back into his 69dodge dart that come with a 318. we cannot get the drivers side motor mount to line up, we are a little less than a 1/2" off.

he is putting a solid mount on drivers side and rubber on passenger side. the passenger side is matching up perfect. we cannot get the drivers side to match up. the only way to get to work is to use a die grinder and wollow out the hole to give some room, then the mount is at an angle and looks as though it will not hold up.

he is trying to put a 1973 360 into a 69'dart and we cannot get the drivers side mount to work. has any of you A'body guys come up with this when swapping a360 in a 318 car?

The block ears are either closer together or farther apart (I forget which) on one side (forgot that too) of the 318 block compared to a 360 block so if your mts are narrower than the block ears then washers/flat spacers works well. the other way if the mt is wider than the ears you'd need the other mt. If a prob on the bottom (kmember) end is the mt being bolted behind the block ears?

does it have the driver side 360 engine bracket and is it bolted to the right side of the ears/lugs on the block?

are you sure the pass side engine bracket is on the right side of the ears/lugs on the block?

340/360 use a different driver side engine bracket than a 318,but should have been on the 408/360 based block to start.

the 318 bracket will need shimed with spacers

make sure the trans mount has not slid on the bolts/holes or in a bind.

I scientifically narrowed my 318 bracket when putting a 360 in my van. Precise measuring and placement went into when I stomped on it leaning against the curb. Yep, fit good and still working today! No shims for me! lol. Driver's side is definitely narrower on the 360 than the 318. Good luck!

sounds like you guys have installed the mount on the wrong side of the ears..The drivers side is the same on 318/360s. The pass side is different between the 2....

You have that backwards.

Driver's side is the different side, BTDT.

we took out a 408 and on drivers side mount, someone had put a bolt and a nut to make the mount fit, with the new 360 for some reason is different from the 360 that we took out, we have tried everything, the transmission is hooked up and the trans cross member is bolt together correctly

we just cannot get the driver's side to worked and what is strange the 360 we took out of the car was 76block and the one we are putting in is a 1973 block and the drivers side block ears are different and this is the problem, the new block is 1/2"different.

we finally came up with the idea, we are going to have to bend the motor bracket to make it work, we just did not want to do this till we asked someone to see if this was a common problem.

i guess we will try it again and see if we can bend the mount to fit
