440 Magnums

440 Magnums - 10/22/11 01:36 AM

Guys, I'm trying to settle a disagreement. What years were the magnum 440's built? I am figuring 67 to 71 is about right. Have a guy with a 1980 motor home with a 440. I have seen other motor homes with 440's built and registered as late as 80 or 81. This guy is convinced that he has a magnum just because it's a 440 and I'm trying to prove that is not the case. Chevy guys should not reproduce.

I agree with 67-71, it was the hi po version that Dodge labeled the Magnum

And...any Magnum will be stamped HP, something his bedroom barge motor certainly lacks.

A 440 magnum was just a 440hp. They made the 440hp until the end of 440 production. Magnum didn't signify anything specific, it was just a marketing term, one that they stopped using once the emissions rules forced the smogger era pistons into the 440's.

Yeah, but I seriously doubt they installed an HP engine in a motor home.

They didn't.

Correct, that would have been counter productive. The base 440 would have been better cammed for a motor home. You just found one of these guys who thinks he's got gold. A lot of em out there it seems...

It's probably the same guy that previously advertised a Max Wedge 413 from a motor home.

The 440 Magnum engine was offered in the Dodge Charger from 1967-1974. It included the Charger R/T,the 1969 Charger 500,the 1969 Charger Daytona, and the later Charger rallye package. With the exception of the 1967 Charger, and a small run of 1971 Charger SE cars, the 440 Magnum engine was not available in a base model Charger. It was offered in the Challenger R/T in 1970 only. It was offered in the Coronet R/T from 1967-1970. It was offered in the code M Dart in 1969. Some dealer built 1968 GSS 440 Magnum Darts were made by Grand Spaulding Dodge. It was offered in the Plymouth GTX as the 440 Super Commando from 1967-1971. It was offered in the Road Runner with the GTX option package from 1972-1974. It was offered in the 1970 Plymouth Superbird. It was offered in the Cuda from 1969-1970. It was offered as the TnT 440 in C bodies from 1968-1971. It was also offered in law enforcement vehicles, from the same time period. It was not offered in any motorhome application.

Unless you are trying to buy the engine for a song and he wants 10k for it I wouldn't waste your breath , your not going to change his mind from the sounds of it.

I know some people with mopars that should not be allowed to reproduce either .
