Trans broke please help!

69 road runner 383 auto. Went to leave for work this morning started car went to shift to neutral felt tranny grab reverse a little on my way there warmed up car and then nothing. No reverse or drive at all but when I shift to park I can rock the car and feel that the park rod is engaging. Fluid level good and linkage moving lever on trans. Any ideas on what would have happened to cause this? Thanks Moparts!

Check the fluid in N (like you should), and then check it in Park. It should read higher in park. If it's the same most likely the pump isn't doing it's job.

Would the pump just go out like that? Worked fine before parking it yesterday?

Yes, when pumps fail they do it spontaneously.

Well upon checking fluid levels I assume you are correct as there was no change hardly at all between park and nuetral. So my next question would be can I just simply drop the trans and replace pump without any issues or am I oversimplifying this? Thanks again for the help!
