Replacing Side Glass in my 70 Challenger

Replacing Side Glass in my 70 Challenger - 08/27/11 11:58 PM

My car had a mix of tinted and clear glass so I bought a new set. How do you get the chrome off the old glass? And how do you get the glass out of the bottom frame? What should I use to put it together after I do get it apart?

I found that a heat gun and some serious tapping gets them apart. Any recommendations about putting them back together?

The $1300 kit comes with zero instructions.

On the quarter glass I used a razor to cut the old sealer in the bottom holder and side stainless then tapped the holder off the glass with a rubber hammer and a block of wood. Clean all sealer out of the channel on the stainless and lower holder . I actually drilled out the rivets in the corner that hold the stainless to the lower holder and sanded and buffed the stainless. To re-assemble use a bike inner tube cut to fit in the channel so the glass fits tight. Trim the tube flush after you set in the glass. Use small screws or pop rivets to hold the stainless back to the holder and use black GE silicone from the local Home Depo to glue everything back together. This is not an afternoon project but is really not to hard but it will take some time.

I took my '70 rear quarter glass to a glass guy. He took the old stuff off and epoxied it to the new glass. It's on there super strong now just like the original stuff.. Less than $50 for both rears
