71 GTX Motor Option??? - 07/26/11 09:31 PM

Hi,
I'm looking at a 71 GTX that has the original window sticker and a little over 49K on it. Here is my question. The car has the 440-4 TNT motor, not the usual Commando motor. The window sticker reflects this option. The sticker also list the "extra heavy duty handling package". The car was manufactured 10-70. Is it possible there was a shortage of Commando motors and the used a Chrysler unit instead? Has anyone ever heard of this? It is a U code car.

I will attempt to add a pic of the window sticker.

Thanks.

We live and learn huh? I always thought the motor was the same except for the pie tin. TNT Chrysler, Magnum Dodge, Comando Plymouth.
Although I do seem to remember a super Comando.
Now I want to learn more.

Lets be clear here; Commando, TNT, Magnum, etc. are marketing names.....the motor is a U code 440 hp and is designated/identified by the E86 code which is a 440-4bbl HP motor whether you are speaking Plymouth, Dodge or Chryslerese.....it's interesting that it's called a TNT on the window sticker but it's the same motor

being a Chrysler/Plymouth/Imperial dealer and not JUST Plymouth, I think it could happen being call TNT instead Super Commando

"extra heavy duty handling package".
440hp and 426 Hemi cars got the beefiest suspension. .92 T-bars and such.

Regardless, it looks like a very cool car with a lot of unusual options including color-keyed bumpers

Very cool car. GF7 with a gold pinstripe and rubber bumpers. Lets see pics!
I believe the TNT label was typical on window stickers for 440 4bbl cars. Every original 71 GTX window sticker I've looked at was labeled the same.
Is this car at Southern Motors?
