Dodge Grand Caravan Sport 00 air conditioning - 07/18/11 09:43 PM

Hi, Have been trying to determine the location of a leak on this Caravn. It has 3.3 and dual air, worked great till a couple of summers ago, developed slow leak, now it will leak off completely overnight. I put a dry nitrogen/R22 trace charge on the system and started sniffing. Also did a visual inspection on the system for obvious signs of leakage. Really clean connections, hoses show none of the usual evidence of oil/dirt accumlation from seepage, no audible sounds of leak except in firewall area. I guess after reading a lot of different posts about the ac systems, I would like to know just how frequently does the evaporator fail in the dash? Thanks for the input.

The vehicle has 98,212 miles on it at this time. and has never been wrecked.
regards,

doc

I ve put several of them in FWIW. Check for evidence of dye at the condensate drain. With a leak that bad if the evaporator is leaking you can probably smell the refrigerant and refrigerant oil in the vents when it is turned on also.

Changed my evaporator in the 00 Plymouth Grand Voyager SE, 3.3 when it had roughly the same amount of mileage as your Caravan. 40K more miles since, and it's still ice cold. No wrecks, Frequent to change as mine was....
