Just finished putting my internet bought 440 into my 65 bbody. the engine number is 4006630 - 440 - 2 and it looks like it has a 77 further along. I think the oil pan has a 402 on it. Question is......what could cause the dipstick to not go in all the way....I have two, a 25.5 inch and a 27 (measured tip to end of the finger hook opening) inch and they don't go in all the way. What couild it be or am I just stuck pulling the pan ?

A lousy fitting windage tray might hold it up. But those do sound like long sticks.

W the std 4 qts in the sump is any of those sticks showing oil when you pull it

dipstick length 69 440 Maybe this will help out. Dipstick tube is 17-1/4" including the part in the block.
