I got myself in a small little bet with another mopar guy. He says 1965 plymouth has the same color trunk paint as the car. I keep telling him that its suppose to be splatter paint graygreen with white and black specks. I think 1965 is the last year mopar used splatter paint in the trunks. Please give me your opinion or facts on this subject ? Lets vote

It might depend on the car model and/or the factory. I've seen both.

fwiw, both 65 Satellite's I've owned had the splatter paint and R457xxxxx VINs indicating they were built in St Louis.

65 is not the last year, I have had 2 68 fury's that had it in them.

on the c-body board, it seemed to narrow down to where the car was built if it was splater or body color.

...My 69 Chrysler 300, a very original, one owner, low mileage car had trunk splatter finish,....from what I understand it was avaliable up to 70, on Chryslers, My 72 FSM shows it as avaliable as a dealer, or over the counter avaliable product, in Chrysler labeled spraycans

my 65 coronet had spatter(?) paint. my 65 service manual calls for black/gray/white spatter. my 69 coronet is body color. i think 66 was the change for b-bodies.

My 65 does not have splatter paint. The wheel houses are painted the same maroon the car originally wore. I doubt seriously anybody changed that intentionally.

My 72 Imperial had a black trunk to match the black paint. It didn't matter since the factory covered it with panels and the same "deep pile" carpeting used inside the car.

Ahhh... living in the lap of luxury.

It's supposed to splatter. I couldn't bring myself to do it.
