727 Kickdown Linkage - 06/07/11 11:22 PM

75 Dart Sport 318, the car will not come out of first gear most of the time and when it does it is shifting at the wrong time. The engine has an Edelbrock intake and carb....here is a pic....

what i see is you have the throttle valve linkage way out of adjustment.

the rod at the carb throttle stud need the bolt removed and a spring put on to pull the slot all the way forward to contact the throttle stud.

the throttle valve linkage should move rearward as the throttle moves rearward at the same time, but you should be able to move the throttle valve linkage with out the throttle lever moveing, the spring should snap it back forward against the stud..so it move freely with out binding

edelbroke sell an extention to make the rod longer to help adjsut the rod out when going toedelbrake carbs

if its a 2-v linkage with a 4-v intake/carb now..that rod may need to be cut and a short piece welded in to make it long enuff the threded aprt adjsut out to the needed specs

running it with it like that and out of adjustment will burn the tranz up in short order and the shift point will be all wrong.

Scratchin is right and also the throttle is wide open the throttle pressure linkage should be fully back or about 1/8 inch more back movement from the wide open throttle pin. yes you need that spring pulling the linkage back so that the rear of the slot is against the throttle pin for the full travel of the throttle. This is what governs your shift points.
