Clutch Bellhousing Question????? - 05/17/11 04:52 PM
After finding out the dissapointing news that Centerforce does not make an 18 spline 10-1/2" clutch for my 440 Cuda, I started looking at other options. #1 I could use an aftermarket bellhousing that would accomadate and 11 " clutch with a 143 tooth flywheel but I really don't want to do that. However, if I used a bellhousing off a B body that would accomadate the 11" setup, I think that would solve my problem BUT I am unsure of linkage compatability. Anyone ever done this?????

This would be comparable with the Centerforce dual friction. Fits the 10.5" flywheel.

Centerforce has the 10.95" clutch that fits your application. The DualFriction DF175810 fits the 130 tooth flywheel and 18 spline input.

Re: Clutch Bellhousing Question????? - 05/17/11 06:23 PM
I talked to Centerforce yesterday and he was not hopeful they would make it. SO, back to the question on the bellhousing, if I put on a B body bellhousing that would accomadate the 11" clutch, would it work in an E body???
Thanks for the Brewers link, I will look into that. Part of the problem is that I have a Centerforce 2 in a 64 Fury and really like it, I am replacing a Borg and Beck style in the Cuda and would like similar results from a replacement as the Centerforce. Any one ever run the clutch thats listed above from Brewers??

Had thought of that, I can't imagine the disc would know or care what it was sandwiched beetween as long as the thickness of the disc and material was similar. But the clutch is a long ways in there to have issues to resolve.
What disc did you use??

All else fails have one built to spec by a clutch rebuilder.

I talked with a guy at Passon Performance, he has the larger B body bellhousings and said they would work for my car. At this point I am going to go with the 11" Centerforce and flywheel and the larger bellhousing. With all new linkage it should be sweet.
Anyone ever used the Passon overdrive kit for the A833, they spread the ratios out a little more to give it a .8 to 1 4th gear although 1st gear is the same as stock.

You can use the 11" bell housing in the E body, but you will have to use the small block z-bar and adjuster rod. This would also move the starter out and can cause more problems with headers etc. Like mentioned above, McLeod diap clutch is similar design to the Centerforce and a much better piece. Pedal effort would be comparable.

FWIW, ALL Centerforce 18 spline clutches are on back order and have been for along time. You might get lucky and find one on the shelf but I have been told they are no longer going to make the 18 spline hub.
