MP leaf springs ??

MP leaf springs ?? - 04/22/11 05:34 AM

I've read some sketchy things about the MP replacement springs, but whats the straight scoop? are they okay? I'm looking at a set of the HD springs, as my originals are a little sacked out.

This car only gets driven about 1500 miles a year, with a handful of days at the strip mixed in. It runs low 12's now, but should have high 11's in it. I'll eventually invest in a set of CalTrac bars as well. For now, I'm using a set of South Side Lift bars. The guy at Cal-Trac said the mono-leafs really don't start to pay off until the car is in the 10 second range, so I'm thinking they're not right for my car.

What's the best option for new springs?

I have a set in the Charger. I like them. Firm ride but not harsh. They have not sagged more than a half inch in 1500 miles. I added a rear sway bar but I'm thinking of removing it. The car feels a little tail happy with the 3/4" bar.

I put the MP XHD on mine and ended up at the same ride height as the 40y/o whooped ones, havn't driven it any to note an improvement

Some on here have had good luck with Espo springs

Bought my SS springs from Mancini. Car sits just as you see it and they work good. Ron

Some on here have had good luck with Espo springs

I hd the MP ones MADE IN MEXICO....THEY SUCKED and sagged after two years. I woud get the ESPO ones .

I have mancini 1 inch higher lift HD springs and very happy with them.

I called Mancini today. The springs they sell are Mopar Performance springs. After what I've heard prior, and read here. I'm hesitant to go with MP springs. Espo's are priced competitively, but for some reason, their shipping is like $50 more than Summit's.

Any other suggestions before I buy from Espo?

Are there any good spring shops in your area? I would think so, and something like an XHD spring would be easy enough and likely a lot less expensive. Last pair of leafs I bought from ESPO cost about $70 for regular shipping.
It's harder to find a shop that can make SS springs, but there was a guy in NorCal who did.

There are a couple of spring shops in my area. I've called them and both wanted $125 a spring to re-arch and add a leaf to my existing springs. My current springs are sacked out, and although I'm sure they could re-arch them, I'm not confident that they'd be good as new for years to come, and It doesn't make sense to me to pay more for a band aid. I'd rather have new springs.

Yikes; yeah, at those prices, ESPO sounds better. Last set of springs I bought from them were for my '63 wagon, and even though I ordered +1" the car sat at stock height, if that. It's just a 2-seat basic no-option wagon, so maybe they just goofed on the +1", but hopefully you'll get what you want. They haven't sagged at all in 3 years, though, as opposed to the stories one hears about the MP Hecho-en-Mexico springs.

There is only one leaf spring plant in the Chrysler corporate system. It's in Mexico. They've made all the leaf springs for Chrysler since the '90s, both OE and MP.

Before that, there was another corporate leaf spring plant, and guess what? It was not located in the USA either.

I hope nobody is pining away for the good old days when all the musclecar leaf springs were made in USA....because those days never existed.

Wasn't it Muddy Waters who said "you can't miss what you ain't got, and you can't lose what you never had"?

These are 454/455 3800LB super stock springs.
I would recommend the same for the OP's '67.

I don't really care too much where they're made, I just want the best quality I can get for the money. If that's made with American hands, even better.

I don't want SS springs. I don't want the rear end up in the air, and I don't want the harsh ride. They'll have a set of SSM lift bars for now, and eventually I'll get a set of Cal-Tracs. The guys at Calvert said their CalTracs will work better on standard springs than stiffer SS-style ones.

I think its gonna be the Espo 5-leaf +1's.

I was not happy with the local spring company's re-arch. Look at Hotchkis, JR spring co., espo.
